Hi everyone,
Just thought I'd check in with how the girls are for those who are interested...
Well, Josephine the donkey is getting bigger and I hope for all our sakes there's a baby in there somewhere but I've stopped obsessing about it now which is better! She wasn't happy when I moved them all to a neighbours field on bonfire's night to get them away from the massive party in the next field to there's.
I thought it would be better for them to be further away but with the benefit of hindsight they would have been better where they were as they weren't stressed by the bangs or lights or people. They escaped in the morning from the area I put them in when a lady with a neurotic TB who suffers from separation anxiety was turned out next door in the morning before I'd moved them and they spent god knows how long galloping up and down and Fleur had gone through three sets of electric tape and jumped a rail to get to him! I had checked them at 7.30am before the TB was turned out and they were quiet and grazing but I was on my own so couldn't move them. By the time I got my bloke up to help it was 10am and mayhem ensued as the TB was out.
Josephine is only just starting to talk to me now, so hopefully I've been forgiven and I learnt my lesson that she's a home-bird at heart!!
Fleur meanwhile has grown again - upwards and outwards. She's now 14.3, loves escaping, loves going out for walks, loves Josephine and Neve (my other mare), loves next door's mare, loves the walkers going past the field, loves feed to the point she has to roll on the rubber bucket after licking it clean and simply loves being tickled, petted and follows me everywhere!! She continues to be phased by nothing so bomb proof riding here we come when she's old enough. That'll make a change from Neve who is a highly strung TB sports horse!!
Oh, and as you'll see in the photos, Fleur thought the water in the stream was FAB and spent hours walking up and down and splashing it everywhere - much to the donkey's disgust!!
She's getting really good at picking her feet up and she even lets me put Neve's rug on her. She's not rugged at the mo as she still loves to gallop around bucking and farting and shaking her head at the others to make them gallop with her - they do for 30 secs and then eat whilst she carries on. She ends up sweating from head to foot and they look at her like she's mad! She's not cold and she certainly has enough padding and they have a field shelter each so she's fine for now!
The piccies aren't great quality as they're from my phone, sorry...
