A TRIPLE BOUNCE!!! I am the proudest mummy ever, we'd never even done a bounce before and he worked it out straight away and did it first time Then we added the back fence, which was actually quite big (at least 2'6" using my "up my leg" measurement system ) but I only realised this once I got off! This is especially good news for me because I think I have always harboured doubts, deep down, that my horse (being draught x) is not really athletic enough for jumping, but my Goodness he made absolute mincemeat of it. I will remember this each time the nerves rise and I think things are big and scary and remind myself that he's a powerful, clever boy, and he breezes it. The other great thing about it was the fact that the lesson started as a flatwork lesson, but on a belly full of grass he was quite hard work. But when the jumps went up...as soon as I turned him into them the engine started to really motor. This is fab because he used to back off all the time (probably because of me) and I found it terrifying to try and jump out of a rubbishy reluctant canter/trot. His canter has improved so much too, it's really helping. So I think he's enjoying it too now his mother is sorting her head out! Am chuffed that I'm keeping up the jumping too, I know a break could damage my confidence. On to the XC clinic and fun ride next week

Aw thanks so much guys, you are all so nice and the support is just amazing and really helping. Am chuffed as monkeys and still grinning - having a glass of vino to celebrate! Going for a hack in the woods tomorrow and just praying the two fallen logs are still there...never thought I would be saying that!!
Kanga thank you so much, yes we DO have ability, and actually believing it is 90% of the battle I think. At the end of the lesson I said to my instructor "it may have been untidy" and she and my friend who was watching both looked at me in disbelief and said "what?? It wasn't untidy AT ALL!" - it's amazing how I'm still trying to do us down. WRONGLY. We all have ability and we must recognise it to overcome these confidence demons.
