Hi, i need a little bit of help, now i havent shown for years and when i did i was a child so styles were different so now i need a little help - im probably thinking wrong but i have my own ideas as i dont want to be to traditional and also dont want to stand out too much like i dont know what im doing, firstly i have a fjord (pic on sig) who i will be taking in hand as she is only 3 1/2 but would like outfit that i can use when doing ridden classes eventually too, i have black tack and to make it akward im trying to have a black and gold theme with tack my stirrups are gold and my bit is cypyrium (gold) and keepers on bridle are gold, i was thinking a charcoal tweed jacket with a gold check through - i have found on on pretty ponies with a red check through but have been told this would be seen more on a child than me oh im 23 if that helps. any ideas? also to take my anglo arab out in hand what outfit/s would you suggest to do anglo arab class , best conditioned etc?? Thanks in advance for any replys

To do ridden and inhand classes (both with your fjord and yoru anglo) you are definitely looking at finding a tweed jacket. Green or brown are the most correct, and I'm sure you'd be able to find some with some gold running through if that's what you want. Charcoal seems very dark, and I think you'd look a bit monotone without any colours other than black and gold. Browns go extremely well with duns too. Adults do tend to wear more discrete tweeds - do you have a link to the jacket at Pretty Ponies? Your gold theme (stirrups etc) will look unconventional, but if you're doing local level things it shouldn't matter too much. The rest of your outfit should consist of a hat, brown gloves, trousers and shirt and tie (coloured rather than black/white/grey). Have a look on www.showingtips.co.uk for a few tips.

hi thanks for the reply here is the link to the pretty ponies one www.prettyponies.co.uk/product-details.asp?prod_id=29would brown tweed be ok with black tack though? - yeah if i went higher than local i could change to silver stirrups etc but i just thought it looked nice with her golden dun colour i think i am being quite unconventional thats a good word to describe me hehe - with my anglo arab i would incoporate silver , pink she would suit gold and red too i have a few nice showing browbands for her already so could get ties to suit them. thanks for the link to the site i will check it out now.

Thank-you ive just had a look at that site i like the brown but what about green i like the AJ04 green with black check running through to tie in with the black? so i would have to have brown cane and gloves , where would a black show cane be used then? sorry i must sound so thick im just trying to make sense of it all , i think perhaps i trying to be too co-ordinated or just chose the wrong colour tack and horse hehe!

I think it's very plain for someone unconventional but if you like it... Showing isn't really about co-ordination (although co-ordinating shirt/tie and browband can look good on riding horses/hacks/show ponies), it's more about tradition - for ladies on a native/cob/hunter that is blue hat, green or brown tweed, cream jods, long black boots, brown gloves and cane and shirt and tie of a discrete colour (often blue/green/cream/burgandy etc). Black canes (except in a few cases) are only used by people who don't know they should be using a brown one
