I've just gone back to basics with Sherb's training after a series of dominance battles which culminated in him become seriously unmanageable. Anyway, to cut a long story short I have got my mojo back and everything is going well.
I'm waiting to ride him now until he is physically checked over by a body worker just to make absolutely sure.
When I do start to ride him again I want to have some direction to our training and I'm really unsure about what I want to do. Local showing doesn't interest me much. Sherb hates riding in the school and doesn't work in a particularly good outline (he's only 5 though and very immature mentally). I know he has potential for that sort of thing because we can achieve some amazing paces out on hacks but they aren't something I feel able to tap into now and I feel that to let him mature before trying to collect his potential up would be better.
I love to jump but sherb's confidence in jumping is lacking. I've been told his conformation isn't really a good jumping conformation so I don't particularly want to push him in that. I can put up a very small cross pole and after pushing him over it the first few times he really enjoys it, but I wouldn't want to push him any harder than that.
I was wondering about endurance riding and really i suppose what I'm asking for is tips on training and how to go about getting involved and also information as to whether a horse would really need to work in an outline very well to do endurance. he definitely has speed and enjoys being out and about. he is not in the slightest bit on the forehand and does use his quarters naturally. he just doesn't walk around with his nose on his chest (or anywhere near) he doesn't walk around with his nose in the air either unless you are trying to make him school which he hates.
what is involved in endurance? can you do it together with a buddy so you know you'll be sticking together. how fast do you go? thanks
