Hi, can anyone tell me what a black show jacket would be appropriate for? I've come across a sale one in a shop on mega price, but not sure what classes I could wear it in? In-hand or ridden? Afternoon or evening classes?
I have a nice tweed, but this one is sooooooo cheap for a wool one....

You really mostly use black for jumping, dressage and hunting poss. can get away with it at very local level for showing but once you go affiliated showing I would say stick with your tweed or wait for a bargain navy to pop up.

Never show in a black jacket!!!! tweed for M&M, SHP, Riding Horse, Cobs, Arabs(also blue) and SH, dark blue for all other types, inhand can be tweed or smart waist coat and shirt. Evening performance is dark blue with top hat, black is for show jumpers and some dressage, save your money and get the best for your type of showing.

So if you were wearing a blue jacket, would it need to be a blue hat too ?

Thanks for your help. I guess a bargain is only a bargain if you NEED it, and I guess I don't now, so thanx!

Never for showing! t would be appropriate for showjumping, dressage (although some wear tweed at lower levels) and the relevant parts f eventing. Some people wear black hunting although it's not strictly correct unless you're married

At local shows turn out & jacket colors are not that important. Even at county level people get placed looking like right scruff bags! i show in hand & ridden at local level in a black jacket & have never been marked down for it! I would like to think if your horse has good movement, conformation, manners etc, then you should be placed reguardless of what color jacket you are wearing!

8-)Kooky was asking if it was worth her while buying a second hand black jacket, kaleigh. As she is wanting to show, as has been said, it would be a bad investment. Maybe she will want to show at county level so there is no point in starting off by buying incorrect clothing when you you can buy the correct stuff at the outset. I'm sure you can get away with a black jacket at small local shows, but I'm equally sure that when and if you decide to show at a higher level, you too will want to be correctly dressed. I would be interested to know which classes and which County show you are referring to. I would bet it wasn't any kind of ridden class, and apart from, I'm sad to say some Arab and M&M classes, (not many) most in hand producers are always smartly dressed. at that level.

Black jackets may be used in Hack classes. I think thats about the only class you can use them in. Yes mainly tweed for showing. It's always a safe bet. Navy is more softer on the eye for anything else. And yes! hat colours must match jackets if black or blue! Obviously navy hat with tweed. We don't want the fashion police after you X
