I was there showing suffolk punches in hand, and our colt foal won his class !! ;D Anyone think they saw me ? LOL (I doubt it, I did look out towards the ringside and the grandstand as I led the foal around and wondered to myself if any of you were IHDG'ers ?

He was actually VERY good, travelled well, he put himself facing the back (have noticed ALL the foals that travel loose face backwards, even though we load them up facing the front !)
When he got out, he was so amazed at the new sights that he totally forgot to bite me one bit till he was in the stable then he had a go at it (he thinks its a game really, got no fear !) Settled in well, we led the mare and foal out for a walk at 7am, and showed them around. HE decided he was a 3month old stallion and was calling ALL the mares and dribbling (you know where) with excitement. He showed off how sexy he was and even challenged the stallions vocally as loud as he could in his baby voice ! Hence he won his class as he was so busy strutting his stuff that the judges liked him. A few of the showing faternity liked him too so we think he'll be snapped up as a stallion and in great demand as we had a lot of interest and enquiries for him. ;D
His mum did well too, she was so laid back and calm about the whole thing. She loved all the kids coming up to stroke her and lowered her head down without being told, so the little kids could stroke her head. She once was at Easton Farm Park, and thus is very used to visitors and was in her element once more being admired, although this was her first time at a show. She came second in the mare class, and as a pair, mare and foal won the reserve champion mare and foal.
IN the championships Bobby didn't get anywhere but we were thrilled with him as he did behave exceedingly well, (well for a 3 month old foal who has dropped BOTH testicles). He didn't rear up, although he did threaten to a few times when he got excited so I kept him moving around and he soon settled again. He was amazed by the cattle in the Grand parade and stood quietly for 5mins watching them then started to fidget so had to let him eat my whip end (rather than me !) His mum was funny about him suckling in public, think she got a bit shy (but was happy to let him nurse in box, but we had to make her allow him to suckle once or twice as it was a hot day and long time out waiting for the class/parade and poor Bobby clearly was thirsty but his mum had other ideas LOL)

Sounds like he had an exciting day lol I most certainly would NOT want to lead a foal his size if he was stroppy You mde me laugh about Mum not wanting to feed him in public------ my show pony mare NEVER let her foals do that sort of thing in public, it just was not done ;D

Oh he's not a bad boy really, the trick is to have an extra long length of rope in case he did get stroppy. He tried to move my feet a few times, but I moved him back every time he did so he wouldn't learn to push me about. He did cotton on to that and stood where I left him a bit longer each time before he had to fidget again and call the sexy mares around the place. The heavy horse wagons rolled by and he called out to the horses driving them ! This little guy has no fear of anything, everything was exciting to him but not scarey.
I did find a way to keep him occupied and quiet when he got restless waiting, I just stratched his butt aqnd other itchy spots, and he stood rock still so I could itch his spots for him the way he likes it, certainly kept him quiet at times when he was getting a bit wired up
I wouldn't normally MAKE a mare nurse in public if she's shy but poor Bobby was clearly thirsty so we had to have a few tries then eventually she gave in and let him nurse (with our help too !) LOL Our other mare has never minded being nursed in public if the foal needs it ! Each to their own LOL Never thought a mare could be so shy in public LOL !

Yep, I saw you and admired the foal. Strong lad! I also noticed when Mum did not want him to suckle - "not now." Well done.
Phew it was hot, I was in the stand and was worried about sunburn on my feet!

You'll have to come over and say HI next year Pip, I was wearing a gold/yellow waistcoat instead of my hacking jacket (much cooler !)
It was hot wasn't it ??
