Most health food shops, Holland & Barratt - and Boots now stock herbal stuff, I'm sure there must be one not too far away from you that is open today

I get Arnica from the local chemist in both forms, pills and cream - also a large tub from local tack shop of gel - great for large areas like legs!

I hope you are feeling better; my OHs daughter had a similar accident to yours a few weeks ago; horse and she leapt hedge, ditch at other side; not quite cleared, horse slipped back, she tumbles off and horse falls on top of her; serious agonising pain in shoulder and neck!1 BUT they were so far out in the Yorkshire Dales, poor girl had to be Air-lifted by helicopter to hospital!! Horse was fine, but poor girl has a cracked shoulder bone, ouch!

Hi guys, thanks for the help and advice! Didn't have to have an x-ray, they were happy once they'd prodded about a bit, which was good. What is a scaphoid anna?! Horsey not even It's only VERY slight but I reckon his right hip has dropped again (this is what was corrected before, so I doubt it was the fall that did it, I bet it just went back that way...). Am pretty gutted and waiting for back man to get back to me (no pun intended). I did ride him today in the school (ice everywhere so no hacking) and we're ok, he was fine actually, I am still a bit too stiff down my left side to be hacking safely I think. Gonna get my chiro's advice as to whether I should even be riding him at all. Good luck with your schooling nimrod! Hopefully you can get her over her nappiness. Has it only started since you moved? I have moved mine twice now since I've had him and he's reacted quite differently each time. Still he seems very happy and so am I.

Hi cesna - soounds like the fall was enough to jog the old injury a bit for your boy The scaphoid is a small bone in the wrist - the reason it is important is that the blood supply is at the far end, so if it fractures, the other part gets no blood and dies - you then get necrosis of the bone and the chance of infection....much more serious than a fracture. I always get x-rays of wrists if the scaphoid area is sore and the person has fallen. The protocol at hospitals is to cast the wrist even if a fracture can't be seen, as they don't always show - then re x-ray 10 days later when it will be more visible. if all is well, the cast comes off.
I say this as it is a relatively common injury from a "fall on an outstretched hand" (known as a FOOSH) and alot of riders fall that way, so just to warn people really. Its not like a broken toe when ignoring it will not do any harm really. If you have a FOOSH, always get it checked as it can cause so many problems. The scaphoid is on the thumb side of the wrist BTW.

Dear Cesca
Sorry to hear about your plight; what a bugger. My advice, for what it's worth, is to take it easy for a while (both of you). Time and rest are great healers. Your fella will probably be a bit shaky for a while; he was probably scared shitless too! Hope all is well soon and don't feel bad for a good moan - it's a great tonic.

Hiya Carole, thanks for that My instructor just rang me to arrange my lesson and I sheepishly explained to her what happened. Feel much better as she said don't worry, we will sort it. The back man is coming tomorrow morning (bless him for coming out so promptly, am so relieved) and my trainer advised me exactly as you have done, for us BOTH to have a good few days off to mend. Then we must sort this problem out before I end up like shep's oh's daughter or much worse:( Shep I hope she is doing ok?
