Hello. Please can I have all your honest opinions on this saddle - I am looking into buying one with the grandeur pads which has knee-rolls but wanted to check out all opinions of it. The horse it would be used on is a 14.1/2hh dalesy type x cobby thing, who is croup high and has huge shoulders! Also, has a long back so not the most desired conformation. I am a size 16/18 too so perhaps a treeless won't distribute the weight that fantastically Ok, please may i have all your thoughts/reviews on this saddle. Thanks

Araminta, I have ordered a barefoot treeless saddle. Having looked and considered them all for ages, I have found they will usually email you with advice as they tend to be sold by people dedicated to trying new things and getting new ideas working rather than 'we don't do treeless cos not enough money gets made'. They are often smaller concerns who are trying to build a reputation, so want to have more happy customers. Wouldn't go down too well if someone has a horse with a bad back as a result of their saddles. Some also do trials so you can check if you like it or not. I have had good advice from Torsion and Barefoot (barefoot has a special offer!). Try emailing them all with the details you put in your post. You may get asked for more details, and pictures! as well as a reccomendation or advice if their saddle isn't really suitable. They do say taht some treeless aren't good for heavier combinations of horse and rider, but I can't honestly say that a treed saddle is necessarily kinder with it being fixed? Good luck, I'll post when my treeless has been tried out (or maybe I won't have time cos I'll be too busy riding all day and night). SamC

well i love them and your horse sounds like an ideal candidate for 1,like all saddles they should be used in the middle of you horse,it seems to have become the norm to place them too far forward,i have a torsion and i had the problem of it slipping forward cos of my big fellas belly, but now he has slimed down lot it stays put,im not overly keen on the granduer pad i think its a bit stiff and i dont like the seams on them, i have the thick torsion pad,but i prefer just a simple sheep skin rug used wool side down, ill post a few pics barney is my horse who is dark bay, fred is my friends horse but he has a cheyanne on we get on ok with them im a size 16,small bottom big belly, lol

I used to have a barefoot cheyenne and loved it, I only sold it because I ended up with too many saddles. I used it on Beryl who is a 14.1 rather wide cob and I am no lightweight either but had no problems with it. I had the grandeur pad with knee rolls and personally thought the knee rolls were a waste of time they didn't give me any extra support. But I found I didn't need them anyway the saddle itself makes you feel so secure that the lack of knee rolls isn't really a problem.

I think Stumpy would be the ideal candidate but make sure to get decent padding to help distribute weight (a suber or skito would be ideal). You may also do well to remove the rear block and replace it with something soft (pillow stuffing or wool).

Thought you'd be on here Jen like a shot!! Can you post photo of the sheepskin pad you use? I know you explained to me what you did but I have stopped using Suber pad as too short for saddle and not overly happy with Grandeur pad and wither clearance. Cheers mate x Araminta - Smashing saddles. Great value for money and fit well. Unbelievably comfy too, like sitting on a bag of air!! Well worth buying and I was bigger than an 18 when I started using mine!
