It stopped me getting riding lessons! Lol!
The teacher refused to teach me as she says i'm "into" dangerous practices, such as riding on my dually!! I asked her (to be polite) whether she knew then anyone who would teach me and she said nobody she respects, these sorts of people neverr stick around for long, that's just the way they are!!! he he

so, shall we start up another thread now? ooo - how about a New Years Revolution Thread? Then we can revolt against SF causing us all to find bad things about IH!

The one thing that I don't like about IH (I've already got my tin hat and flame proof suit on) is that the Craig Stevens method of riding is starting to become synonemous with IH. I might be way off but that's the 'word on the street' and the reason that (when I can afford to do the courses) I won't be booking on a riding course. PLEASE feel free to disabuse me of this understanding as I'd love to be proved wrong Baymare, I would be really interested in finding out why you feel this is the case. NOT trying to start a war, SarahFox As far as I'm aware there have been a few threads where he has been mentioned but I've certainly not see Kelly defending/endorsing him ... have I missed something?

Hi to everyone,
I think you should be great full of what you have for example:
First of all the IHDG.
1- Dose not matter how much I would pay there is nothing like it over here which one could go and join their courses and learn something therefore money is not an option here if you pay in gold there is no where like lets say Join Up courses like what you have over there.
2- Books if you want a book lets say Perfect Manners or Perfect Partners if you pay in gold the weight of the book you could not get it.
3- You have everything by your hand why not enjoy it and thank heaven you got it all.
4- The Drugs for Horses you have everything by your hand so enjoy it all together.
I hope you get more because you deserve more, I am not saying why we don't have it , I am just saying why don't everyone enjoy the good and the positive things that they have and be proud of yourself that how much you guys help each other and you are there when someone like me needs you and you have helped me in any way that you could so thanks to you all. I am proud of having so many nice people in this DG and I am honored by their friendship.
Regards, PH.

I think one of the problems and this is with all areas of horse methods and ideas is that people get too absorbed in their own ways and are not willing to try other ideas and always think their way is best as each horse is different so different methods suit different people and horses but then I think this is a problem in all horse circles

You really wanna know? ! ;D Ok, seeing as my knowledge of IH is actually basic, I'll stick to what I know... I was taught to do join up by an MRCPH holder. I then thought - cool, I can get my horse to follow me around, but now what? I don't see how it relates to ridden work at all, but then, I don't know that much about it, so could be wrong. Said MRCPH holder caused enough injury to the soft tissues of my mare's nose whilst loading her that the bump is still there to this day (about 7 years later). I'm also quite worried about the "I've seen it at a demo, so I can do it" attitude of most of the IH people I know.. One even advertises her services as "loading in the monty robert's style" when I'm sure she's only ever seen the demo.. The attitude that a dually is the panacea to all problems. Also, the "get an RA out" attitude. If the psychology information was made more widely available, people could mostly sort out problems themselves IMHO. The attitude of IH followers towards Parelli-ites... We are not bigoted or blinded to the joys of IH.. I can see that it probably helps lots of people. However, Parelli seems a more "complete" way of helping people to understand horses to me.. It's just my opinion.. What's wrong with that?? Oooh - and someone (Finn? ) said that if IH people still had badly behaved horses, they were doing IH wrong.... So, you can believe that about IH, but not Parelli?

Oh, and the misapprehension about both IH and PNH that it's just about doing a few ground exercises or buying a rope halter or dually and your horse will be fixed...
Most cases of problems with horses are relationship problems, which can't be fixed with a new halter. If your horse is b*ggering off on the way to the field, he's telling you that there's a problem in your relationship... That maybe he doesn't want to be with you as much as he wants to be with his friends... A dually might physically stop him from b*ggering off, but it won't stop him from *wanting* to b*gger off! And if you're "Intelligent", you'd prefer to solve the cause of the problem rather than just mask it...
Both IH and PNH followers, IF they do it correctly, need to be able to read the horse and react accordingly using psychology...
Just a little thing that I think gets overlooked by both camps on occasion!!

sherbert dip am with you on this one, who knows what the gossip is about me! We ride without the saddle, turned up without the briddle once and instructor was amazed pony didn't chnage character! we have to put the noseband back on for Pony Club (I won't go into the experesssions when we jumped bareback). Theres still an old addage out there that if a pony is messsing around your safer on it than leading it. IH has meant that I can develope a realtionship with support form online freinds rather than founder on my own.
IH for me is about a mutual partnership, with me taking the role of Mum.
ps : regular farrier said today pony would never need shoes, this made me happy, when I next get the LOOK I can quote him!

Cokey, I so agree, and I was dishonest not to say it in the first place, so here goes. I hate "quick fix " methods therefore I hate the dually. As you say, what people should be learning is how to handle a horse on the ground with a normal headcollar and not to have to resort to a gadget. I am 5ft tall, and have dealt with horses from shetlands to 17.2 + and have admitedly on occasions, had to put the headcollar rope around the front of the nose in the case of the big ones, but they have quickly learned that pulling, barging, tanking off is just not acceptable, and lead normally. It's all about psychology,--------- confidence, attitude and conning the horse that you are in charge, not pressure on the head. Tin Hat in place, and duck

Oooh - and someone (Finn? ) said that if IH people still had badly behaved horses, they were doing IH wrong.... So, you can believe that about IH, but not Parelli? Nope--I believe it about Parelli too...the problem is if you mainly hang out with folks who're working in another 'system' or 'culture' you nearly always see the ones from other systems who've defected/got it wrong and are moaning about it/got the wrong end of the stick about it etc so it's easy to assume the 'system' itself is defective, when actually it isn't. People get it wrong or it doesn't suit them or they just want to whinge etc. All the people I know who've used Parelli actually got on fine with it--one of the people who used it 'second hand' as it were from being given hints by a mate of hers, well, I wouldn't like to have horses that reacted like hers, let's put it like that. But I don't think that's a Parelli problem per se (although I guess every system has its weaknesses). ;D I am actually thinking that Parelli and clicker training would be good for H--it wouldn't suit JJ at all (he's a firm believer of the JJ system of human training), but H really is a Parelli pony in waiting

PLEASE feel free to disabuse me of this understanding as I'd love to be proved wrong ... You'll have to climb up in the tree when SF isn't looking as we're only supposed to say what and why on here, not counter anyone else's arguments to explain. These are the current IH courses offered when you click on courses on the IH page. - Perfect Manners
- Horse Psychology Course
- Stud Practise/Handling the Young Foal with Ian Vandenberghe
- Feeding & Nutrition/Horse as an Athlete with Ian Vandenberghe
- Five Day Foundation Course
- Leading & Loading the less easy horse
- Intelligent Riding Clinics (To book this course, please call 01285 831 736)
- Riding Clinic - 5 Day (To book this course, please call 01285 831 736)
- Handling The Untouched Horse
- Basic Massage and Stretching Technique for the Horse Lover
When you phone to 01285 831 736 to enquire about the riding clinic, you will speak to Adam or Nicole, who teach Mary Wanless inspired riding. As far as I know IH is not currently endorsing Craig Stevens, though as long as it is fair to the horse, there are plenty of methods, such as Centred Riding, that are considered IH. It was through Kelly that I first 'met' Sally Swift, as it was Kelly who sold me her book. There is no riding requirement to complete any level of the Monty Roberts Certificates: they require you to show theoretical understanding of the management, physiology, psychology and behaviour of the horse and practical competence and experience at handling horses on the ground. The higher the level, the greater the amount of competence and experience you must demonstrate. Mind how you get down the tree, then perhaps you can get the right word back on the street.
