I love the fact that IH is a big tool box of good horsemanship. You can add or take away whatever you wish as long as it's non violent and works for the horses best interest. Through reading the books and attending the courses we learn a variety of things, but no-one says you have to use them all or follow a 'method'.
I also love the team anad Kelly - they've helped me enormously.
As for price - well they haven't gone up for years, and if you look around at others, they're actually very reasonable.

What are the prices for RAs? I thought it was £25 per hour plus travel?

Dear Catrin, What is an IH cap? You'll find one here www.vitalsafeshop.co.uk/safeshopv20/images/intelhorse/baseball%20cap.jpgWhen I did the Stage 1 course in April 2003, Kelly asked us at the start what we wanted from the course. I said that I had bought a baseball cap at a demo the previous November, but hadn't worn it yet, in case I did something 'unintelligent' whilst handling a horse. At the end of the week, I wore my Intelligent Horsemanship baseball cap with confidence. I still have lots to learn about how to do things even better, but I reckon there will always be evidence of what it says on my hat.

Sarah, they all vary. It's best to contact them to find out. I think they are reasonably priced, although people still seem happier to pay vets, farrier and riding instructors than RA's, which bearing in mind their training and ability is a shame.

Where do I begin? The non violent approach. Watching and "listening" to horses. Learning about their biology, their behaviour and working through that to get the results that you hope for. Finding that the IH approach works not just for adult horses, but for the youngest and most vulnerable foals. The most challenging and traumatised ones too.
Having an ever growing toolbox. The tools are the methods and the box is the way we approach the problems. With growing understanding of the horse and with love. The box is always open for new tools from anywhere and anyone, if the way is right.
The support network. The courses ( wish I could do more) , Kelly and team, the RAs and friends who are fellow travellers on the IH journey. The IHDG and "all who sail in her". I shall stop mixing metaphors now, get my green fleece on and go outside to wade through mud. Sometimes , when I`m out there with an interesting problem, wondering what to do next, it is great to think of all of you across the country ( and the world) doing similar things and working things out using what we know for the good of the horse that we have in front of us.

I think it is great that IH is open to all non-violent approaches, it encourages learning and searching for better methods of working with and teaching your horse. But the best thing about IH must be KELLY ;D She is a great teacher and is constantly evaluating herself and her methods. An inspiration

I shall be at the Springfield Hotel, Holywell for Monty's dinner on Thursday Feb 7th. Can you get Kelly to bring you as 'official photographer?' Then I'll be at Southview on Saturday and Sunday. That's my 'local' Monty venue.
