Feeling guilty that I haven't ridden G for a few weeks. Not that I haven't wanted to but time is so scarce and don't want to ride in a hurry, would rather not bother and spuddle in the field with them. But I do feel bad that G isn't getting out of his field. He is out 24/7 and has views all around but I still feel pants for not getting him out of field. Now I am pregnant if feels even worse!! I won't get rid of him but I do feel pants. Its only dark nights and manky weather making it like this!

He's having the time of his life! Being pregnant is such an emotional rollercoaster. Sorry, you'll have to fix on something else.... he's in heaven! Congradulations by the way.

Nope. Not a bad owner at all.
That is what winter is for, taking time off and NOT feeling guilty about it, Heavens, mine don't get ridden for weeks at a time on occasion, they enjoy going out but aren't exactly banging on the tack room door demanding to work and I am just idle, not expectant!
Enjoy your pregnancy and make the most of 'Me Time' without guilt, take this time out for yourself, relax and enjoy a slightly less hectic life, because it sure as heck isn't going to stay that way once the baby arrives!

I'm sure G is perfectly happy --------------------does he stand at the gate screaming at you to take him out? Does he persuade people to call the RSPCA, because he's not being ridden?? NO! -----------Well then, there you are, he's fine lol Winter is a rotten time at best, it must seem a hundred times worse if you are pregnant. sending you hugs xxxx ((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((big hugs )))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))

(((((HUGS)))))) definately NOT a bad owner. Horses couldnt care less whether its ridden or not, probably prefers not to be if the truth be known. Any time spent with a horse isnt wasted. Just standing with them, cuddling them, grooming them , whatever is all delightful. Your doing nothing wrong, enjoy .

Anyone questioning whether they are a bad owner - cannot be! the ones that are, are oblivious.

Tia would swap places with him in an instant! Lucky G Tia gets taken out in any weather, mainly in the dark and no she does not enjoy it LOL

I read a book once by an amazing animal communicator and she said that whilst most of the horses were quite happy for us to ride them when asked what they would like most (9 cats out of 10) the majority said "more time in the field". He is probably quite happy and will do better for a bit of a holiday too.

I feel exactly the same gordo. I rode up until about 16 weeks when i had a fright - my lad slipped on some chalky ground. Luckily i wasn't on board but it made me take stock. I wrestle with feelings of guilt all the time but he seems happy enough. Enjoy spending time with him and enjoy being pregnant.

I make a rule and have done for a few years now, not to ride through December so no Christmas/winter stress. I start them back sometime in January. I don't give it a second thought, but boy! so many others do! I get the whole 'oh they must be so bored in their field' or 'bet they can't wait to get out for a ride' I just reply; 'for any animal who's designed to eat the same green plant for 18+ hours a day, boredom isn't really a factor. Horses stood in their stables all day with 'exercise' (which doesn't constitute as leisure time for the horse) are bored. 5 horses who are a tight herd all out all the time together are very happy indeed thanks-very-much-now-go -away-and-find-out-more-about-horses-before-you-think-to-talk-to-me-again-ta'

what's this riding you speak of?
New years resolution for you should be to lose the guilt, petal. You do just fine and Gordo really won't be all that bothered if he's not ridden.
