I borrowed a treeless saddle today and it was lovely. It was weird to begin with but I quickly got used to it and I loved it. I could feel Brys back tense when she wasn't happy and the saddle deffinatly moved with her better in canter, I have never been able to sit to that ponies canter so well. Trott was the only thing that was slightly difficult but it wasn't THAT bad. I'm not sure how Bry felt about the whole thing, I am going to ask if I can borrow it again and see how she goes in it. And yes...here are some pics, please excuse my big nose, thunder thighs, weird look on my face and yes I am aware that I am wearing the wrong riding attire on my feet:eek: ]

I'm really not sure, I hope to use the saddle a few more times and get a better idea of how Bry feels about it. Also there is the small matter of being able to afford to buy one as I'd like to keep my tree'd saddle for jumping and it's only 5 months old.

oo i like a nice tale about treeless, well done, thing to remember with treeless is be consious of is the weight you put in the stirrup, as it does pull the saddle down in a very concentrated area, i think i suit you and your horse well, though id take gordo up on the offer of a size 2, you look like you have a very nice leg position ,i bet you could go down another hole there you dressage rider you, lol, good luck,

Can I ask what size is the saddle on the pics and why is advisable to try the size 2. Would the 2 be smaller ?

Funny you should mention about the stirrups, they were a hole longer as I normally ride that long but felt a bit lost with them in that saddle.
Also can someone explain to me about this sizing malarky??

I only asked about size, as I have a treeless similar to the one you have tried. My mare is quite short backed. I find that I am more comfy riding with longer stirrups than I would with my treed saddle. Can I ask what size your horse is too please ?

Rosie, As you can see Bry is fairly short backed and I have a large posteria which has caused us a few probs, her current tree'd saddle is a 17" seat with the panels below the cantle shaved a little. Bry is 14.2hh at a push. xx Oh and I don't have a clue what size that saddle is, I just borrowed it...is that wrong?? Help...anyone

i think the sheepskin make the seat even smaller but it too small for you, you need to be sat in, rather than on, the saddle, so atm, in the pic, and its hard to tell just from a pic, i susspect your sat on the back (cantle) bit then your botty should be infront of it, ,the size 2 will be better ofr you, and as long it isnt way too long for your horse it should be ok, as there isnt anything that can hurt the back if it only inches too long, well that my theory, we have been using a size one, on a 12hh pony, and he seems fine in it even though it a bit longer than it should be, ,, the stirrup thing, when you rise you should feel like your almost rolling your thigh inward, and your pelvis a bit more like train pistons, , as oppose to up and down, as you would be pushing, its not hard to do, but it dunt arf! hurt to begin with tones your legs up no end, if you can keep your leg position and pull you pelvis through, or tuck your bum under a bit so your back would be flat id say your onto a winner, not often i complimant folk on leg position, cos im possesed about it,lol, , i say your pone looks a lovely sort, whats her breeding, oh and if your intersted, when you do try a size too try placing it a wee bit farther back, ,, ok im offy mi saop box that no-body asked me to get on, im sorry i get all excited, lol ask gordo,

Mmmmm thanks Jen, I will ask Gordo to pop over with hers and give me a few pointers. Will use this one if I can aswell to get a feel for it. As for Brys breeding well she is a mongral pony as far as I know. She's an Irish of some description. Not heavy enough to be a full cob but has lots of feather so maybe she's crossed with a connemara or something.

She's still a diva, I've ruined that horse, I tell you. Used to live out without a rug all winter with no hard feed. Now she lives in a cosy stable with a BIG haynet and lots of cuddly rugs and she shrieks at the top of her lungs if her dinners late!!
