No, not one of those stupid jokes !
I have used my vet practice for 14 years now and cannot remember how many different vets have come and gone.
In the early years, we seemed to have just a couple of familiar faces that we got to know. I think its so important for you and your horse to build a relationship with the vet but i was told today, that two more regular ones have moved on !
I have just sent a letter to the practice to thank them for sending me someone that i know to check on Luke while he is laminitic and to suggest that they ' clone' Andy for the future in case i need a familiar face. Does your practice have a large turn over of vets or are you lucky enough to keep the same one ?

I've been very lucky I think. My original vets have split up into 2 practises and both have expanded but I still aim to use both. One is cheaper call out so use him for jabs - and if I have an emergency I will call out the other vets - they are more horse specialist. Although Flynn actually likes the cheaper vet more! But the horse one has more equipment and facilities.

I've had the same vet now for about 15 years - he was the Junior Partner in the practice when I started with them - he's now the senior partner! It's a mixed practice but he does mainly horse work (plus looking after the Safari Park for a bit of variety!) Fortunately he now has two good junior vets with an interest in horses - either of whom I trust for routine things or emergencies.
Hopefully by the time HE retires, I will have too!

I tend to see the practice owner, used the same practice for a little over a year now. Changed from previous vets due to a huge hike in call out fees! I think the current practice hasn't had much change in staff over the year. I think due to my horse's history I really need him to see someone who knows him and his problems though, I'd be there all day explaining things to a new vet, lol!

I'm very lucky that the local equine vet keeps her horses at the same livery yard as I do. She's willing to have a look every now and then if you have concerns without charging. Not bad!
