I spoke to a RA today and she thinks that my mare may have a liver or kidney problem. As her temprement has worsened. Her blood test showed her liver slightly raised a few months ago but we changed her diet and the blood test was done again and it was ok. I dont know much about liver and kidneys, symptoms and cure etc Any info would be great. She is currently on a low protein high carbohydrate/starch diet. thanks

The liver and kidneys are like the purification/filtration systems of the body. Common reasons for them overworking are excess sugar or salt or lack of water, or excess protein but I think this is more to do with other problems rather than too much in the diet. So I would not be feeding a high carbohydrate diet (as this is composed of sugars). There are some good de-toxing supplements out there, and plenty of good fibre is usually the best diet.
