Calling any Icelandic owners-
Do you buy specialsist icelandic tack as in bridles etc. We have bought a saddle from Eldings old owner and need to buy a girth, bridle , reins and stirrups.
There is a lady on ebay selling Icelandic bridles but my daughter is being difficult and saying she doesnt want leather (being a good vegetarian)!
Any ideas of what we should buy?

Thats probably what we will do . However her head is quite a different shape from our other cob(Dare I say larger)! She looks more like a teddy bear!

I bought my bridle from Astund and imported it - its gorgeous. I got some green webbing reins with it - really suits him colouring wise. My friend has just bought a bridle from the ebay lady and its really good quality too. Not sure if Astund do webbing bridles - have a look www.astund.is/index.php

If you cannot get Icelandic stirrups from the IHSGB shop try Lillhasten in Sweden. It may be better to call rather than email as the lady in the Lillhasten shop is happier with spoken English. Can pm tel no if required

I have a webbed bridle for seamus, but his head is an odd shape...so had to buy two different sized bridles, to make one that fits him...if you give me rough size, i'll measure the spare one i got...you could have it, if it will fit...it's black with red piping...

:)Hi .Thanks for the advice. I have had a look at the astund site. The bridles are lovely, but unfortunately leather! Thanks Julz. Thats really kind of you. I did suspect a conventional cob bridles may not fit-her head is somewhat different in shape! Where would you suggest I measure ?

don't know really, TBH!! just a general, round the widest part of the face, and length..... the bridle is a hybrid of a warm-blood and full sizes!
i have had this bridle for two years...am dying to get rid of it!!!!
but plenty room to adjust!

My friend had real trouble finding a bridle to fit her Icelandic, she ended up making one up with a full size browband, extra full headpiece, cob noseband and pony cheekpieces!! She's now got an Icelandic bridle, which she loves. Good luck.
