was not quite sure how to put this up as a poll, so hear goes, what horse do you own?, what breed is it?how long have you had it,? what could it do when you bought it ? what have you taught it?, how much did you pay for it? how much would you think it would be worth now.? How old was it when you bought it?, what sort of rider are you?, is it your first horse or one of many? and loads of pictures to. Don't want allot i no. i will start.
I own an Arab, he is 3/4 Arab and a quarter paint, i bought him as a rising two year old that was only halter broken from a dealer. At the time he was very UN handleable and a really bad aptitude. I paid a 1000 pounds for him and two years on he is probably worth about 3 and a half to 4 thousand. I have worked with him on the ground and in the saddle , i have also shown him in hand. He has a lovely scopey jump although jumping i would say is not for him. In the schooling ring he works very well and rounded with a very good outline and top line building up nicely. He is classically trained and is just learning piaffe but is still a little bit stiff on one side, He can be grumpy but now a days we have learned how to take one another and he no longer has the chip on his shoulder he once had. As a rider i am qualified up to stage 3 bhs but have been known to be a little nervous, but through riding classical my nerves are beginning to be a thing of the past. On the roads he is doing fantastic, although is not a big fan of lorries but now will pass quietly with a little tension, he has also suffered terribly with separation anxiety, but again this is becoming a thing of the past.
I have had quite a few horses before him, but he has been my biggest challenge and took every ounce of Patience i have but now we are forming a team two years on

I have the horse in my avatar. He's called Cosworth, is 3/4 tb 1/4 warmblood, bred in Ireland, sired by Hillview Warpaint and full brother to Apachee, if any of you follow showjumping. He's 12 now, I've had him for 5 years.
When I bought him he'd done a little bit of showing and dressage, only to prelim level though. He'd hardly jumped, just the odd x pole in the school as his previous owner didn't like jumping. Paid £2k for him.
What is he worth now, well, you tell me, lol! Not a lot! Suffered a pelvic fracture just after I bought him, which left him unlevel behind and claimed LOU as the vet thought he wouldn't do dressage. Over the next few years he improved, so had a go at unaffil novice dressage, got consistently placed and won the league at my local venue. Also did two affil novice classes on day tickets and got 2nd in one and 3rd in the other with scores in the mid 60s. This was all last year, btw. Then he's had this year off due to a fractured pedal bone, now healed but is having remedial physio to help his quarters strengthen again. Quietly hoping that we will be able to pick up dressage again in the spring but we'll see.
So what have I taught him, well, to go well enough for a novice test, which doesn't sound a lot but when you consider this horse, according to the insurance company, is only worth £300 and shouldn't be doing dressage, is an achievement, I think! As you can see from my avatar, he is now a confident jumper and has done a few BN classes affiliated. He would run out and leg it if you put him at anything more than a simple 2' x pole or straight bar when I got him! And he's done xc with me which he'd never done before, was a bit hairy the first couple of times but then he decided it was fun and gave me a few super rides. Sadly not done that for a while due to recent problems!
And as for me, I'm working towards my stage 3, been riding since I was 10 (18 years now, eek!). I'm confident but not excessively so, won't get on a known bad bucker/rearer, etc (don't see the point!). I enjoy competing as it gives me a focus and helps me progress me and my horse. Have been well and truly bitten by the dressage bug, used to be into showing but don't like that any more. Did my first few steps of piaffe a few months ago on my instructors horse, lucky you to be doing that on your own horse! I've got into Centered Riding recently too and am hoping to go to Switzerland in the new year to do the first instructors course.

I have dancer, in my sig, who i own, the other gypsey is on loan..Dancer was bought for me last year at weaning, 6 mths old..£1200 welsh sec D x Gelderlander, reg pbw . He had a halter fitted to travel and thats all that had been done really..He now 1 year later, will lead nicely, back up, rein back from the ground, now good with feet, farrrier etc, can do anything to him, lay with him or on him, is a cheeky chappy and constantly tests you but all done in a kind way..lol...will lead out in traffic and is fine, will wear a roller and has just been bitted..just starting to long rein, but he doesnt understand that yet, about to start clicker training with him too...He is pretty bombproofed, will walk over and wear tarp too...I was offered 2k for him last week, by a chap who buys shavings from the yard im at..but i refused, hes not going anywhere...the guy left his number incase i changed my mind, but i cant see that happening. experience wise, he is my first foal, i have owned horses for the last 6 years after a 15 yr gap, so a foal was really scarey and still is..When i was younger i did my AI but cant remember much due to an accident..and gypsey we have on loan as a companion for dancer and also for us to ride, shes an angel..

I have a 13hh Grey Sec B on loan. She's 21yo and still a fruit loop. Her full posh name is Cusop Bella. We're only just starting ridden work properly after anound 5 months off as she's had back/quarter problems but she's seeing a wonderful lady who's really helping. I've had her for 3 years but her owner has had her for 16 years. She had her as a partly broken 4yo...she's done PC, jumped 3ft6 chase me charlie, hunter trails etc with he owner and still does the odd bit of SJ and XC. The main thing I've attempted to teach her is that she doesn't have to gallop everytime she touchs grass (sill working on that ) and that schooling isn't pants. No idea what she's worth...wouldn't say much given her age and total unsuitablity for children. I'm what I'd call a competant rider. I've been riding since I was 7 so....12 years (had to work that out). Rode at first riding school for nine years, another for about 4 lessons...hated it and had a few months off then found Misty then started classical lessons last year while I was working but ran into money issues and had to give up. I can walk trot canter and enjoy the odd gallop and enjoy my jumping. Had a nerve busting experience when I was younger and haven't really had the oppertunity to jump bigger than 2ft3 ish on Moo although her jumping style has helped my confidence no end. I was riding her old feildmate for around a year and did 2ft6 and 2ft9 competatively and even jumped 3ft6 at home. Am more than capable of jumping that height just need to trust the horse first...can't just get on and jump. I'm still working on XC although again I jumped some 2ft6 XC on the same horse and had never done bigger than 2ft before. I worked on an event type yard for 9 months (until owner moved and downsized) and handled a bosterous stallion, helped break a 4yo and rode out a 6yo as well as all yard duties. Not got any qualifications as never had the money to pay for them (the BHS ones are extortionate!) but I'd say I'm up to stage 2 standard having read up on whats expected etc.

I own Dan, Irish TB owned him 4 yrs but 18months of that he was out on loan.
When I bought him he'd Showjumped quite successfully winning or placed most times out. Mostly unaff though but he does have winnings
Difficult one what I have taught him, I dont jump and he's not exactly a dressage star but he is now a fantastic hack, he didnt hack when I bought him. when I went to view him they showed me the bridle in pieces that he had snapped last time they tried. He doesnt run backwards or panic so thats a bonus. Really its his attitude thats good now rather than that iv taught him much.
I paid £600 for him and could probabley get £2000 now.Not sure what sort of rider i am, maybe quiet but effective? One of many horses iv had

Had Nessie (see my avatar) for 2 years now. Very bendy youngster but now working at Novice level at home, competing Prelim with minor placings. KWPN with Dutch Courge(dam side)/Uniform(sire) bloodlines. When we are good we are very good but when we are bad........... Cost about £4.5k (special price as I had her on loan for 6 months).
But don't really care about any of that as the most important thing about Ness is: she gave me back the confidence to ride following a couple of spectaular falls from my previous horse who actually reduced me to thinking about packing it all in after 35 years riding

One mad palomino quarter horse who I bought for 2.5k. He can do all the usual western reining stuff, and was supposed to be well-behaved (and probably was for his previous owner!) but when he arrived with us he didn't cope at all well with his world being suddenly trned upside down. He was a nervous wreck and consequently barged, nipped, tried to walk all over everyone and was a general nightmare. He also had low grade laminitis when we took his shoes off, and after nine months battling with his soundness we took him off grass completely, so he now lives in a woodchip pen. His diet has to be watched like a hawk, since we're not 100% sound yet, but he's nearly there I suspect as a result he isn't worth anything--too awkward to look after--but I'd buy him again if I had the chance over again Training wise--he now can do a sort of Spanish walk (we did it too keep him amused), you can move him around with finger tip pressure, he loads himself, and on the few occasions we've actually ridden him he was very civillised. Riding wise of course he's trained western and we're not, so that's a bit interesting--we've had to read and watch lots of stuff and initially even riding in a straight line was impossible, but fortunately the horse is perfectly tolerant of us even though I suspect he thinks we're totally mad. Second horse was a feral mountain pony filly. She'd worn a headcollar and was half-used to her then owner, but that was about it. She now leads (at least until she decides to challenge the pecking order, which she does all the time anyway because she's a bossy madam), loads, is afraid of nothing especially tarpaulins, feed bags, loud noises, and me waving my arms and shrieking and trying to drive her away from whatever it is she's currently trying to break. She's not too bad with traffic, stables better than the QH, and we paid £180 for her--which was far too much. No idea whether she's worth more than that now, even though she is a pretty colour

I've got Ginger a 7 year old ID, had him since he was 4. He's the one in my avatar and sig. Bought him for 3k, not sure what he is worth now. He was backed and lightly schooled when I got him. We mainly hack and school, and also local dressage and showing comps. He's done little jumping but that's my current project aswell as going bitless! :-) Me- I would class myself as an experienced novice on the general scale of things. Now 34 and been riding since I was 4 (eek!). Bit more than a happy hacker but by no means advanced! Ginger and I have made a lot of improvements over our time together but this is more down to lessons and a fantastic sharer than any knowledge I already possessed. Ginger is my 2nd horse but the first one was not the horse for me and I didn't own her long so I consider Ging my first proper horse.

I Have a 4 year old 12.2 chestnut welsh mare called ruby ! i got given her by jen1 when my aunty was keeping her horse jigsaw (jigs ) at her farm for the winter, sure enough me and my girl bonded and i ended up taking her home in march last year. i know (using parelli techniques) can hack her out round estates and main roads without a foot wrong, hoping to do loads of work with ehr this summer as she will be 5 !! she has her momentsa nd because she was weaned to early she sometimes launches herself and you because she reckons i want to eat her ! she has come so far and im really proud of her. when she was at jennys she was such a little monster (back legs, teeth) but now she has the love and affection shes already turning out to be cracking little pony !! this is her as a 2 year old at jen1s !! and this is her being backed last summer she`ll be 4 years old how come no-on is putting pictures up ??

what horse do you own?, he is Otto what breed is it? erm i have been told by a lady that had him at one point that he is 1/4 shire 1/4 clydsdale and 1/2 ID but i dont know as he is only 16hh how long have you had it,? just over 3 yrs what could it do when you bought it ? erm... rear and canter (in the wrong direction), was absolutly bombproof hack tho, had supposidly done XC and hunter a little but i cant get him over fences! and didnt lead!!!!! what have you taught it? to stop...he had no breaks at all, schooling as he hadnt done any and had no idea what the whole riding thing was about other than he was sat on and followed another pony, no longer rears. leads most of the time these days, to be nice to people! how much did you pay for it? £750 with all tack and rugs! how much would you think it would be worth now.? erm i dont know actully he has arthritis so i suppose that would devalue him quite a bit but i need not worry he isnt going anywhere! How old was it when you bought it? 8, what sort of rider are you? well i was near enough complete novice when i got him... now ild probably say still a novice but slightly better as hes taught me not to fall off and not to take any stick from him lol! but i dont do competing etc! is it your first horse or one of many? he was my first pony! and loads of pictures to. oooo my favourite bit!!!! but sorry they are all old photos the week after he came this summer faffing at the yard summer before showing (sorry this photo gets everywhere coz i love it!) eta...COWS COWS.....ive taught him about cows!!!!! he used to completly flip out at them and we would be galloping up the rong side of the main road before i new what was happening but now he walks past them! ... yes his eyes are on stalks but we get past!!!! also he used to bolt and tank when hacking and now he mostly behaves!

i got susie at 2 yrs old, she was supposedly 5, she was hugely fat and lying on a pile of tar in a field. ive had her 11 years now. She was already backed, but i bought her on, have taught her to jump, schooled her and broke her to drive. Shes done rda and riding school work aswell. Murf was a very scared 8 yr old in a field on his own, his owner was terrified of him, hed been schooled a bit by was still very green. Ive taught him how to jump, took him to pony club, took him hunting, took him to college with me and schooled him on, took him showing and showjumping and done a bit of xc on him. had him for about 8 yrs now. Maddie was given to me by my ex boss, she was going to be shot at the racing stud as she couldnt have anymore foals. When i had her she was horribly underweight and a complete nutcase, and evil, she would sweat up horribly and shake with fear when she got out of the trailer. Ive reschooled her with a bitless bridle and treeless saddle, taken her hunting, taken her to shows and done endurance on her this year. shes fab and we had our 2 yr anniversary yesterday. amber i bought from a horse sales, she was the most stunning thing there and i had to have her. she was 6 at the time. I took her to college with me, did all pony club stuff including camp and we had great fun. she then developed problems with tacking up and became dangerous to ride, i changed her to a treeless saddle and she was fiine, but had become sour to riding, so i retired her and she was also diagnosed with arthritis in her hock. i traced her history and found out she was bred to event and was pushed too much as a youngster, i think her arthritis is related to that. Ceryn was bought as an unbroken, pretty much unhandelled broodmare. we had been looking for a horse for my mum, but saw her and mum fell in love so she became my project. shes gone from a horse you couldnt get near to a backed and riding away, 99% bombproof, completly catchable reliable pony, who my mum adores. Shay had a bit of a history on a forum i was on, he was a bit of a trouble maker, a girl who had rescued him and had him for 5 years was forced to give him up because he jumped out alot, i really liked him but was unable to offer him a home as we were looking for a horse for my mum,he was rehomed to another girl off the forum a while later, as no one else wanted him, he jumped out there also so she needed to find him a new home, id been following his story and was in the position to offer him a home when he came up for rehoming again, rescue centres wouldnt take him and the girl was told to put him to sleep. Ive had him 4 months now and hes got so much better, only jumped out once (yesterday : but doesnt bolt in hand anymore (not for me, apparently still did with the girl who brought him back for me last night), were working on his loading and fitness and will be starting endurance in teh new year, im also starting western on him, hes a real loveable rogue.
