Dolly now has her own paddock and I've decided to make it the best paddock on the farm...tomorrow I'm putting hardcore down in the gateway and around the trough so she has somewhere dry and non-muddy to stand.
However, now I'm thinking! Wouldn't it be great for her to be able to choose what herbs, grasses, etc she wants to eat, and to have them available in the field...
She's addicted to cow parsley - it grows wild on the lane outside the field already - how would I go about transferring it into the field and is it really safe for her to eat it?
What else can I use, where can I get it, how much does it cost, how do you plant it and how long will it last?
Thanks a lot!

Cotswold Seeds do a herb mix for horse pasture. It is worth planting them in one area though so you can avoid killing them if you ever need to spray the field for weeds!

Not to put a dampner on the idea...but will the farmer allow you to add herbs etc into his feild? or do you own the feild outright? bearing in mind that you may not have the feild forever and a day, they farmer will no doubt want the feild back eventually, but will he want it full of herbs? also, if you intend to upgrade the feild would it be possible for others to see what a grand feild it is and want their horses in there too?

The farmer is happy for me to plant a border of herbs rather than taking over the whole field - the Cotswold Seeds site is amazing - so much cool stuff However the hardcoring didn't go well today so herbing the place is on hold until at least the spring

ahh...a border...now there's an idea!! My sister has planted baby fir tree's in Seamus's feild in abut 5years or so they will provide some shelter...if the Farmer doesn't find em first and pull em out (before the rabbits!!)
