I'm very sorry to have to tell all Nikki's friends here that she died, suddenly and without any warning, last Sunday evening at here home in Italy. She was 52. We don't yet know what happened to her, but whatever it was was absolutely instantaneous. She felt no pain or suffering, and clearly did not know that it was happening. Our fourteen-year-old daughter was with her when she died. They were watching a film together.
She will be cremated (as she wished) in the Cimitero Laterino of Siena at 11.30 on Monday morning. Afterwards there will be a short reception (if that's the right word?) in Gaiole-in-Chiant for all her friends. Later, we will place her ashes under an ancient cypress tree in a corner of the horses' field.
As many of you know, this discussion group was an important part of her life (though not quite as important as the horses themselves!) and we are sure she would have wanted you to know what has happened, why she has fallen silent. If anyone particularly remembers any poem or text that you know she specially liked, we'd like to know about it, either here or via her e-mail address (which I think some of you have).
Thank you all for the advice, support and enjoyment you gave to Nikki.

Words fail me to express how I feel and I am so sorry for all those close to her who loved her. This must be so unreal and painful to you all. We will miss you so much Nikki.

Blimey! This is a total shock! I'm sat here in floods of tears. Although I had never actually met Nikki in the flesh, I thought of her as a friend through her postings on here - especially about her mare that was returned to the wild. She will be sorely missed, that's for sure! My deepest sympathies to her Husband and Daughter at this devastating time. tara x

I can't believe that lovely Nikki, so vibrant, and such a beloved part of our community on here, is no longer with us. It hasn't sunk in yet, but Justin, we will miss her so much. We met a couple of times and I will remember her always. I am so, so sorry and send my condolences to you and your family at this time. Jennie in Wales.
