My mother-in-law lost one of her beloved horses to colic this afternoon, aged 19. They'd had Tarime since he was a 2yo, he taught my husband to ride and carried us over many miles and years. He even taught my young daughter how horses do Spanish Walk.
My mother-in-law is broken hearted.
RIP Tarime.

Thanks everyone, for your kind thoughts and wishes. I will tell my mother-in-law that people are thinking of her. It's so sad. Have to tell our daughter tomorrow - she rode him every time that the children went to the in-laws for holidays. Poor old lad...

How sad Wendy. Tell your M-I-L that we are thinking of her. She must have given Tarime a lovely life.

Thanks everyone, I did tell Francoise that you had sent your love and best wishes. She was touched that other people were thinking of her.
It's so sad because here in France, there's no services for pet cremations or anything like that so the body has to go to the incineration plant, along with all the other carcasses not destined for the food chain. And they're not able to come and pick him up for a few days so he's still lying in the manege where he was PTS, covered with a tarpaulin.
Honestly, sometimes I miss some of the facilities we have in the UK.... though I wonder how people have faired since the hunting ban (or other legislation). Can the local hunt still take horses' bodies, for example?
Sorry, it sounds macabre but we never consider these practicalities until they're upon us, do we.

Yes, the hunt still take horses bodies at the moment, a friend mentioned it the other day.
