I lost Splender Oct 2nd 05, she was a 16.3h morgan mare, 24 years old that i rescued feb 05 and the vet gave her only 24 hours to live, but live she did. I rescued her in a terribly emmaciated condition, there was nothing but bones and worms. She hadnt been fed for a long time surviving on only bits of grass and contaminated water from a creek. I have never seen a walking skeleton in all the years I have been in horses, I have rescued and seen some bad cases but this was awfull, I still have nightmares. I took her from the owner who tried to put up a fight, along with two others that were in very bad shape but not as bad. The other two survived, one rehomed the other I still have. Splen gave us so much pleasure, but she gave us also some terrible frights. She lived her last 8 months a happy but not 100% healthy horse, but she died knowing she was loved and cherrished. We still miss her and love her very much, when her best friend Amira foals in April we are hoping for a filly and she will take our old girls name of Splender. Rest in peace, we still love you and miss you dearly. Sharon and Allan We know she is in a better place. no mre suffering. We gave her our best and faught as long as she did. She survived against the odds and it taughht me a great lesson, AS LONG AS THEY WANT TO FIGHT, FIGHT FOR THEM, THEY WILL TELL YOU WHEN ITS TIME TO GO.

What a sad but also uplifting story. Splender has had a glimpse of heaven already, when she met you! RIP to Splender and I suspect her companion's foal is a filly, please let us know what she has though. x

Will do, I was feeding the girls this evening and baby spleder was just kicking around in there, I know it may sound stupid but I chatter away at both my girls stomachs, well they say babys can hear you when they are in the womb, so why not foals!! I have 11 weeks until baby splen is born and it is so exciting. Thank you for your reply. Sharon
