I used to ride with my friend and her horse Fergie, who was an almost TB of about 15hh and 20 years old. He turned his hoof to anything and when her dressage horses were lame, he was the one she would take out and about and enjoy and forget the others for a bit! He led the way when we went in the woods, led my young horse through the streams and over bridges and through boggy patches and up steep hills, when my horse might have faltered.
He was an easy, happy horse but he did like to be in front.
He developed Cushings and in the summer had laminitis in all 4 feet. He was kept in, but the other horses could go over and scratch him over the stable door to keep him company. He started to get worse and then something happened to his insides and he started to scour. The vet said he wasn't going to make it, and so, after living in since July sadly had to be pts a coupel of weeks ago. His owner shed lots of tears for him, and we missed him today when we went for our ride in the woods.
I hope he was with us in spririt.
