Copied from Yorkshire evening Post, dated 13/12/07 THIEVES have stolen £30,000 worth of saddles in Dewsbury. The gang struck yesterday in between 1.20 and 1.45pm at Grange Farm, off Leeds Road, Hanging Heaton. Farmer Gill Paterson, who runs a livery stables for about 20 horses, said she was devastated. She said: "We went out yesterday and whoever it was must have been watching us because we weren't gone long." She said thieves removed the door frame to get into the locked room before making off with around 30 saddles and bridles, each weighing about 30lbs and tailored to fit an individual horse. Mrs Paterson added she had seen a silver Peugeot parked near the entrance to her farm, off Leeds Road, Shaw Cross, at about 1.20pm. She said: "When we left at about 1.20pm there was a man in it with a woolly hat on, talking on a phone. I thought he looked a bit dodgy but then I noticed him following us so I thought, 'At least he's not going down to the farm'. "Now we think he may have been a lookout." She added: "This has devastated us and the people who come here to ride."

And as we get ever nearer to Christmas I guess sadly there will be even more of this... So sorry for everyone affected, I know the chances of any of it getting recovered is slim, but I hope by some miracle it is. It really is essential that people get their tack marked, as you just never ever know.

I know, depressing isn't it? I bet none of those saddles were tack marked, or it might have been mentioned in the report. Easy pickings.
