I'm just curious, I sold this pony to a lovely home nearly two years ago and i was looking at old pics and wondered what you thought. This pic was taken the day the new owner came to see her, and decided to take her. I was so upset afterwards i thought i would take her over to the X country course and jump a few fences. Looking at the pic again i think my lower leg is a bit far forward? I apologize for only giving the link, i can't seem to post the pic in here, Sarah photobucket.com/albums/c65/sarahandpebbles/?action=view¤t=pebblesxcounty1.jpg

I think your position is fine. The lower leg is slightly forward but I think this is safer as it anchors your position when landing. The pony (having looked at the other pictures as well) looks as though she has quite a low head carriage and may pitch slightly on landing and so this position with the lower leg slightly forward is good. You appear to be just a little behind the movement which for cross country (I have been taught) is safer as you are less likely to go out the front door if the pony stumbles or stops but you are going with her and don't appear to be hampering her at all.

it looks super position for xc, a more forward lower leg gives you a much more secure position if anything goes wrong, and you are keeping your weight back which is really good. I always look at pictures of lucinda green or ginny elliot and try to base my position on theirs!

Thanks Jemma,
Thats really kind,
Thanks to everone for the comments, its really nice to receive positive feedback. I only wish i had a horse i can go and practice on now lol, but uni takes all my attention at the mo, i hope to get another one when i have finished, that way i can devote my time and energy to it.
Thanks again
Sarah

Echo tammy and the others... that position you've held over the jump is smashing for a SAFE and balanced XC position when going at speed!

Im at York doing psychology. Finish in May so can see the light at the end of the tunnell now! Chose the uni so could still keep my horse, which is fantastic but hard work! She is a TB and gets mad if not ridden nearly every day! Just wish i hadn't discovered this discussion group as i dont get half as mcuh work done now!

wow thats hard. How do you manage to do both? I live at home and could keep a horse but im to affraid about time. How do you manage it? Psychology is a hard degree too. Im studying International Relations, Modern Europe: culture and Society. I love it but its hard work, i don't know how i would manage a horse too, it takes me weeks even to write a good essay.
