I'm afraid they are randomly generated computer passwords. Its best to change your password to something memorable as soon as you login for the first time.

Please excuse me if I am being particularly thick (its my age) but do we have to both log in and register to use this new forum? If so, on the log in section, do I use my membership number for the password bit and on the registration page, do I make up my own password? I am confused - but then it doesnt take much to confuse me!!!

You can sign up with whatever name you would like to use, the password will automatically be generated which you can change in your profile once you are in. Its totally seperate to your IH number
