I have a mare who is generally very quite . She has lived most of her life in livery yards busy places . I live in a very quite location she is turned out in a field on her own but right next to her is my old horse and field with 2 donkeys in it I find it hard to ride her out on her own she can be great one time then spooky others and just wants to get back no matter what you do She also displays behaviour in the field on occasions not all the time where she will gallop blindly round the field whinny and general scared of something when there's nothing there all she wants is the other horse who I cannot put in with her as he chases horses . She shakes for ages then just stops and goes back to her normal quite self What would help her I was thinking maybe a companion or any thing I can do to help her will be gratefully received many thanks

How long has she been in this current setup, since she moved off a busy livery yard?

It does sound like she's not coping alone, have you just brought her ?

She needs a companion, maybe two as you might need a companion for the companion while you take her riding. Unless you see her 24 hours a day every day you cannot be certain that she is not upset at some point during the day.

I think since you've had her for a while she would have got over the initial settling in phase. I agree with the others: it sounds like she could do with a conpanion or two to give her more stability at home. It might be helpful to get an RA to visit: they might be able to suggest things you could do to help her more.
