Sadly our beautiful Casper was pts yesterday afternoon. He had lami in both fronts and arthritis behind. He started on Thursday 3rd December and the vet came out to give painkillers. He was in the stable from that day. Another vet came on Monday 7th December and said give 2bute day and give him 2 weeks but if we wanted to pts that day he would have no problem with this. Am off work this week so have spent practically all day since Monday. He was allowed to go in the school but he just stood there and could barely move even on 2 bute. Yesterday afternoon we called the vet and arranged disposal, which my husband took care of thank goodness. We had lots of cuddles before the vet, who sedated him and we walked him out of sight, I left him with my husband but went back to see him after it happened. He was so peaceful, I stroked him and took some of his tail before the collector came and we both couldn't watch. This morning I cleared his stable and it was very therapeutic, I know he's not in pain and although I woke crying he is at peace and I am. It was horrible decision but it had to be made. My hubby also cleared up where it happened and has been my rock. Leo is sad, but he's got a very good friend in the field so was happy to go out.
Run free Casper I will never forget you, hoof prints on our hearts xxxxxxxx

I'm so sorry to hear your news PB, so sad but as you say he's now not in pain. It is always the hardest decision to make but at least we can do that for our beloved animals. I'm sure Leo will miss him (Harry grieved for nearly a year after we had my lovely Bonnie pts), give him time to adjust, at least he has a friend to be with in the field. Take care of you as well, it's usually later that it really hits you that they've gone. He couldn't have had a more caring owner and great support from hubby. RIP Casper xxxxx

Very sorry to hear this PB. It is hard to have to say goodbye to a dear friend, but it's good to be able to free them from suffering.
RIP Casper. You're very much missed.

Oh no, how sad for you. Try and get some comfort from the fact that while ever you owned him he knew no badness. He was never hungry, cold or abused. This should help you feel proud to have been his owner and looked after him in his twilight years. Fond memories xx
