Just wanted to post a quick update now that she's been on the Cushy VX for almost a month. There hadn't really been a noticeable change, although I did think she was slightly more forward going.
My sharer had remarked that on Thursday she had lots of energy during an evening schooling session, and today I really noticed a difference too out hacking. The first thing I noticed was that her trot was very springy - if only we had been in the dressage arena! Then during a trot something spooked her and my friend's horse and she shot in to canter, bucking as she went. (She's not normally very spooky.) After this she calmed down, but was nice and forward.
When we got to the stubble stretch, where she would barely maintain a canter previously, she tried to take off like a rocket, bucking as she went. I kept her in a controlled canter until we got to the slightly uphill bit, and then opened her up - she absolutely flew, and when I tried to pull her up she decided that she would keep going at that speed until nearer the end when SHE thought it was time to stop. Again after this she was fine, but very forward during another trot stretch.
I'm not complaining - it's lovely to have her feeling so good - but just a bit sceptical that it could be the agnus castus when she's been on it for several weeks? The only other thing that has changed is that we had a new hay delivery last Saturday, so they've been on different hay for most of the week. Do you think it's more likely to be higher energy levels from different hay?

lovely to hear she's feeling so well. It could also be the end of the seasonal rise and hormones returning to lower levels? It's also a lot colder all of a sudden. Bambi was VERY turbo-charged yesterday, we had a rather manic and slightly out-of-control but hilariously fun hack with two friends - all three horses were on their toes yet relaxed, they were enjoying themselves immensely but they did want to race and go as fast as possible. Bambi jogged, trotted off at every opportunity and snook in cheeky canters up grass verges despite growls of "TERROT!" from her hapless rider who nevertheless enjoyed every minute of it! At the end of our usual circuit one of the other riders said "let's do the extra loop through the forest" which is shorthand for "Fred needs a gallop!". They were all very sweaty and nearly home, yet when given their heads up the steep forest track they thundered up it, absolutely flat out, and still found the energy to collectively decide to canter up my friends' private lane at the end of the ride. It's the first decent hack we've had in three weeks and she's been clipped since the last one - she was obviously feeling good! Mind you, she was well tired afterwards, bless her spunky little legs. That particular ride usually takes two hours, yesterday we did it in just over 1.5 hours but that included the forest loop which is an extra couple of miles at least.

I guess time will tell? But even last winter she didn't display any of this very cheeky behaviour, so I'm not convinced it's seasonal. I have to say I've been so desperate for her to get some of her sparkle back, but it did make me feel a bit nervous of cantering as she was so very exuberant! Not cold here today - it was 10 degrees and sunny - so don't think she was feeling a nip in the air. But boy was it wonderful to know that she was feeling fab!
