I don't think it is limited to Rotherham. I live in the neighbouring authority, but I am acutely aware of an incident involving a man and a 13 year old girl some years ago in our borough too. (he was prosecuted but got a very light sentence as she led him on) What makes someone an easy target? I think it's a young girl who is unsure of her own worth, initially flattered by attention, then unwilling to get someone she thinks loves her into trouble until she is brainwashed into thinking this is OK. I think we all need to be more observant and share our concerns, particularily hotel workers and taxi drivers, and also look for groups of young girls hanging round takeaways, then Share our concerns.

I agree we should all take responsibility for our communities but I believe that concerns were raised time and time again in this case but still it continued. I think that it is easier to blame the victims than deal with the perpetrators. Lets hope the lessons have finally been learned.

i hope so its horrible when these stories come out, especially when you hear that the authorities didnt help at the time
