I've signed up - when it actually starts maybe we should start a thread on here for discussing it.

I saw these, and considering one. Do you see in H & H this week that someone has a Welsh Section D that hunts regularly and is fed nothing but hay and grass. I remember another article in H & H years ago that featured a well known driving pony, also a Welsh cob Ithink, that was ridden at the weekend drag hunting and was driven through the week and had a hanful of chaff and grass to eat. Many horses, years ago, only had oats before they went hunting and a bran mash when they came back. Not recommended as we know that the horse cannot manage to digest large quantities of 'new' food but colic was rare among hunters. The fields were limed after haymaking putting magnesium into the grass and the hay fields had flowers, or weeds as they call them now. Hay and grass were nutritious enough for a horse who didn't do much exercise every day and still is of course, but we need to supplement the modern deficiencies in the grass. I think it is better to hunt a horse on grass and supplements, than to over fill with the stuff in the feed merchants. In effect a horse needs to be doing a couple of hours work each day to need grain adding to his feed. How many horses do that mooching round a field?
