Went down this morning to find (after having given them all breakfast! ) that piper had something stuck in her mouth.. though maybe a twig stuck in her teeth lifted her top lip to no.. instead i find a bramble bush stalk dug into and around her top gum!! I tried gentle to free it.. nope.. so got help of a friend and with two people we managed to gentle 'unhook it' from her gum without damage.. clean it but very watchful. Now... looking at a bit of a gum that is slightly raised and sort of yellowy/creamy colour and red around the edge... i looked at that bit this morning and wondered if perhaps a thorn from the bramble stalk has ebedded in there... tonight.. still not sure.. she'll let me touch it, rub my fingers over it can't feel anything and obviously not too painful.. so could just be a bit sore.. or could still be something stuck in there... Obviously i reluctant to call a vet to find out nothing in there and just time to heal! lol So (obviously depending what it looks like tomorrow.. if worse.. will be call to the vet) if there was anything i could bath it in that if there is anything in there.. will draw it out.. but safe to use to in that area... She is still bright, eating and grazing and no obvious pain but monitoring her carefully.. if i do think something is festering in there will be call to the vet.. (which will be oh joy as pony's first reaction to vets is to go virtual! lol)

slippery elm bark powder is a strong drawing agent, i use it for splinters and abscesses. mix it to a paste (i tend to use myrhh tincture to mix as its a strong anti-bac) find it on the internet or good health shops stock it. It is very powerful and will draw out any foreign bodies as i found when poulticing a friends dogs leg, had recurrent abscess,....she failed to tell me it had a pin in it! after the pin was removed (by vet)...no more abscessing ...
