and my 2 favorite lil men ..... :
1st of January 2013 .... and my first proper hack out since Cobys accident/illness.
We`ve had 3 walks out in hand, just down the lane and back. But today, the sun was shining, and i thought we`d see how we get on. He was a bit fresh ... But forward going and willing, if not a bit "looky". We came across 3 other riders and he didn`t try turning to follow them (really listening to me ... good lad). We were met by cars/motorbikes/barking dogs/flapping washing ... all great, had a bit of a ride and lead moment too, again, good as gold ..... I`d gone ahead a little while, as hubs, Dilly and Jack dropped back, and i asked Coby for a trot, he started off choppy but quickly listened, and softened, and we had the most beautiful floaty trot ... asked him back into walk and gave him loads of fuss ;D ;D
Had one moment ..... when a car pulled out of a blind driveway a bit too fast, Coby shot to the left and at the same time some mini shetlands spooked behind the hedge and galloped off .... Coby`s backside hit the floor as he scrabbled to "escape" and then he took off ..... BUT very quickly, with a "whoa", i got him back to a controlled trot, and into a walk. I then turned him round and walked him back and introduced him to the minis over the fence, the lady who owns them was fab, and said if he carries on being worried by them, he can spend a couple of days in the field with them, so he can learn they aren`t scary ... he was still snorty with eyes out on stalks, but we walked up and down a few times (i was on the ground for reassurance), and then i got back on him and we walked calmly back to the field.
I was laughing at him running off, which suprised me, as i thought i`d have been scared, but i knew he`d listen, and i knew he`d stop, and he did bless him, and apart from that little 5 min incident, the rest of the hack was relaxed and happy ... and considering he hasn`t been ridden for 3+ months, i don`t think he did bad at all ......
Just a couple of months ago, i didn`t know if he`d make it or not, he was so poorly, yet today we`ve had a stroll out in the sunshine, it`s made me feel on top of the world ;D ;D and the wee Dilly Dilbert was an absolute superstar too, such a bombproof wee pony, i feel so blessed to have them both
I`m going to get the Physio out to Coby i think, he was a bit "uncomfortable" a couple of times, i can`t quite pinpoint it, but i just felt he was holding himself a bit tenser than usual. I`m wondering if he`s pulled something. So i want him checking out to be on the safe side i think.
