I agree... my neighbours were desperate for a dog and searched a couple of well known charity kennels but were refused a dog as they lived too close to a main road and their fences weren't high enough. They went to a smaller kennel and were given a dog straight away. They now have 2. The woman worked at home at the time so the dog would never be left, when she had a new job they built a huge kennel with radiator and radio. They employ a dog walker, bought a car specifically so the dogs could travel better with them. It makes me furious to think these places apparently so desperate to find nice homes for animals could turn down such wonderful homes. Having worked at a small rescue kennels where we assessed people there and then, we tried to find the best suited dog to people and they could just take them. This may sound too far the other way, but very rarely did it not work out and if it didn't it would be due to an incompatibility that couldn't have been predicted. Generally people who go to rescue an animal have merit just for doing that rather than buying surely? I would only ever rescue a horse privately as the restrictions etc from charities are very unrealistic. Mind, we were once reported to the RSPCA by a very evil person (who knew us and knew the dog etc- just a bastard (old dog had tumour and on vets advice left alone) the inspector came and tried to persuade us to have a horse from them. Yet if I had gone and asked they would have inevitably found something wrong. Charities complain about being full of "unwanted" animals but very rarely let those who want them have them.
