well for the first time ever my horse has a frozen tail and frozen feathers! its only -4 oC. He's happy enough though.

Ours have had frozen tails, feathers and whiskers! Oh and the tips of the hogged manes! Lol bless them!! It looks like our black mare, Gloria, had high lights! It was minus 7 here this morning! Brrr

It's a good sign - means they aren't losing body heat to melt the frost on their hair.

i will bare that in mind. that must be why its there then as I normally clip him even back of legs, but it was cold last winter and felt mean, left them this winter!!

Blaze had frozen dreadlock feathers on Tuesday. Back to rain by tomorrow lunchtime

Thank you for putting this thread up. I have been worrying about my ponies being out 24/7. This is their first winter out as we've only had them home since Feb this year. Last weekend I upped to medium weights (neither are clipped) poor Molls looks like she's wearing a mini skirt as a shire X, deep enough rugs are hard to find. They always feel warm under their rugs and I'm sure they are happier out but Oooh it does feel mean at times, its reassuring to hear other owners tales of the cold without tales of worry and bringing them in keep warm :0)

Mollichop.. I recommend premier equine for big horses. our Percheron wears one and is absolutely fine. X

Or no rugs at all! My big friesian gets frosted whiskers looks hilarious - til she rubs them down the back of your neck

Aw I miss my frosty morning ponies They have to stay in on my new yard. They have been coming in with frozen tails and frosty manes for a couple of weeks though.
