I need to buy some new gloves. I want some that are warm but still have enough feel for dressage schooling and enough grip for wet weather hacking. Any recommendations please.

Oooh I fell in love with some Sealskinz at Countrywide the other week...but at £40 couldn't bring myself to get them. Unfortunately I have already used up my Christmas wish list...sob...

Sealskinz. Worth every penny. Get the winter riding ones.

I do have the Sealskinz ladies winter riding gloves, and they are well worth their money! The palms and palm-side fingers are leather lined with a thin waterproof barrier - very thin and good feel on the rein. The back side of the hands and fingers are a bit thicker and nice and warm. They've also proven to be brilliant in awful riding weather (very wet). The hands really do stay nice and dry so long as you don't have water running into the cuffs or you're constantly taking them off and put back on again on wet hands. The only caution I'd give is to remember that there's leather on these gloves. You're not supposed to dry them quickly (over the radiator) and doing so will make the leather stiff.

another vote for sealskinz - I've had a pair for about 4 yrs now and have bought the ladies winter riding gloves too when they came out cos they're slightly less bulky. I've used them for getting broken ice out of water troughs and never felt the cold or wet!
I'm also a fan of the sealskinz waterproof socks - my muckboots are starting to leak a little in extreme conditions adn the waterproof socks are great! warm and dry toes and fingers are the ultimate luxury!

Cannot beat Sealskinz IMO, i have the winter riding ones and the thicker normal ones and have just bought my dad the all weather all singing and dancing winter tog 4 ones.
Hate the ones with rubber pimples on the palms, found them stiff and horrible and made my hands colder but the riding ones are really supple.

Another huge vote for sealskinz. Ditto getting ice out of water buckets without any cold or wet getting through. I couldn't live without them now.

I must have had bad luck as mine didnt wear very well at all. I still have them but thats because I have mended them so much and no not dried on radiator but in the house and not in drier.
What I have discovered that work as well and MUCH cheaper is Aldi's & Lidls's ski wear gloves. Brill and waterproof warm to ride in as well ..as neat as the Sealskinz gloves. Costs about £5 a pair! I have had a pair of these over 4-5 years and still going strong and this year treated myself to another new pair.

I use Mark Todd ones for everyday around the yard, and seal skinz when it gets VERY cold. They didn't last that well for me, they got a split after 2 years, which then let the wet in. Another tip is silk liner gloves - buy from outdoor gear shops.
