Has anyone used therapy (I can't remember the 'proper name) to help overcome their nerves when riding (specifically hacking)? What were your experiences? Thanks Sophie

ETA: I think by therapy, I think I mean sports pyschology and the like. I realise therapy was maybe the wrong choice of word! xxx

Go on FB, and look up Cathy Sirret's Effective Horsemanship site. Her blog and the recent Ebook putting all her essays together is amazing. She runs workshops specifically on hacking out and is a fantastic resource for any rider.

Haven't done that, but have used a Perfect Confidence cd by Sharon Shinwell, I think, will have to check, after I had a major issue with William. Worked brilliantly for me.

Hi- I have used a lot of self help books of various kinds including Kelly's Perfect Confidence and I find they are great as I can pick and choose which bits seem relevant at the time and are affordable- some are very dog eared now! I am facing Voluntary Redundancy in the near future and I thought about retraining as a Life Coach/ Counsellor- A very confusing muddle of Associations and Ideas it has turned out to be! So if you are tempted to part with cash check out their qualifications as I have found locating a 'Career Path' that is professional and Accredited very hard and confusing- many of the ideas that I have become used to using - NLP etc can be hard to pin down and I am loath to spend money training to be a 'Quack'... As these Therepies are 'Talking Therepies' being on this web site is probably one of the best supports I have found as every one here knows what it is like- all horses and ponies are capable of generating fear - some more regularly than others! We all have to find our own way through as it is our bum in the saddle- I have found inspiration here when one of my to ponies has been getting to me and I have got scared- especially for me in dealing with a scared pony in heavy traffic some thing I am overcoming but it has taken years and I await to see what 'loosing ' my job will do to my nerves/fears and self confidence. Wish you luck. MC
