I can't begin to imagine how very hard the last few days have been for both of you, along with all the other posters I just hope that Cody is soon on the mend and definitly mention your concerns to the vet.

Prayers he continues to heal, it's certainly a worrying time for you. I am sure the vets will let him home asap, especially if he is stressed. They may put bars up to stop him leaning against the doors and pressing on the tear in his gullet ?

Sorry I don't have anything to add, but wishing Coby a safe and speedy recovery. Thinking of you both. x

I mentioned Coby to my OH - he's an ENT surgeon and they had a patient once with this and they actually deflated him by stabbing him with sterile needles as the pressure on his chest was stopping him from breathing. Could the vets not do this?

Could the vets not do this? I was wondering if this would help last night. Sending lots of strength and I hope he is more settled, having him in a stable doesn't sound ideal. ((hugs))

I mentioned Coby to my OH - he's an ENT surgeon and they had a patient once with this and they actually deflated him by stabbing him with sterile needles as the pressure on his chest was stopping him from breathing. Could the vets not do this? Thanks for this ... We have looked into it, but the problem is, to allow the rupture to heal, the pressure needs to remain as high under the skin, as it is with each breath. If we decompress him, it will cause the pressure from his breathing to keep bursting the healing of the rupture if that makes sense ? ... Right now he`s sooooooo massive, that there isn`t any room left for air to keep leaking out, and so therefore will help him heal quicker (theoretically .. don`t think i`m in agreement with the vets on that one, as he seems even bigger today) .... Thinking of you and Coby...how are you both doing today? xx Neither of us are doing great to be honest ... it breaks my heart seeing him how he is I hate leaving him, even though i know it`s the best thing for him. I miss him dreadfully .... You`re in my thoughts too sweetheart, big big hugs for you xx

I`ve had a really long, hard day today, i have so much on my plate it`s unreal, and things are starting to pile on top of me a bit. Ok, so i`ve spoken to a different vet today as mine wasn`t in (but one who i think a lot of, she`s who looked after me when Mouser cat had to be PTS earlier this year). She`s explained in depth why they can`t operate to fix it, it is way too close to major anatomy that could render Coby paralysed/unridable/in pain etc .. (or dead). All they can do is keep him infection free, with as stable as possible breathing, and let his body heal himself. The air/gases are going to take a long time to go away they think, but again it`s uncharted territory as they just haven`t seen this before, so again they just can`t give me any idea`s of what to expect. I found a barn owl this evening, it needed treatment so popped it down to the vets and spent a bit of time with Cobes whilst i was there. He was stressed again, and was head butting me, grabbing at my clothes and being really stressy. I stood with him and just let him do it, and waited for him to get it out of his system. Then i just stood cuddling him, he really softened while i talked to him. I told him how amazing he is, and how much i love him, and how i can`t wait for him to canter with me again like he did before for the first time, and that i was so proud of how strong he was and how he looked after me that day. That i can`t wait to gallop like the wind across stubble fields, and that things are on hold just for now whilst he`s poorly. I told him that he will get better, and he will come home, and we will do all these things and more once he`s better, and that he will get better. He had beautiful soft eyes as i spoke to him, and just kept whiffling my hair and letting me kiss his muzzle It broke my heart leaving him again, i hate walking away from him when every fibre of his being is screaming at me to take him home ..... Having spoken to the vets, i understand why they want him there, and yes, he`s sooooo swollen i would not forgive myself if i brought him home and something was to go wrong, and put him at risk, so though it pains me, he is in the best place. He is still ridiculously swollen ... But he`s still my boy under there, and yes he gets stressier when i`m there because it`s me, and he wants to come home. But i have to be patient for him, and he needs to be showing at least some signs of deflation before he can come home. xx

It must be heartbreaking, but stay strong and positive, if the pic posted earlier was him with his head over the door, he looks positive and his behaviour doesn't sound like he's feeling like giving up - speedy recovery Coby
