Thank you all so much ...... i know a lot of you have followed our story, and this is just one more page to that book, i shan`t give up on him xx Well i have news, good and bad .... but here goes. The X-rays still didn`t show anything due to the sheer about of swelling he has. After doing the endoscopey with the gastric scope one instead (so they could see it on a big screen) they have found a 1cm tear in the dorsal (top/back) side of the windpipe, about 15 cms down from his jaw (brilliant that they`ve found it). They not so great news is because of where it`s positioned they can`t do anything about it, HOWEVER it does look to be granulating/clotting SO it looks like his body is trying to heal itself. The not so great news is that he is even bigger still ... i didn`t think it possible that he could get any bigger, but he is. There are still possible complications, as mentioned before. The swelling is still as bad 4 days on, it hasn`t started to subside (which means the leak is still ongoing). The swelling/air under the skin is/can compromise the blood supply to the skin the longer he`s like this, so the skin could start dying off in large patches. He is open to a massive secondary infection due to the breech in his lung/windpipe allowing outside *nasties* in and under the large air filled skin cavities, obviously every breath draws *stuff* (bactreria/dust etc) in from outside, it doesn`t usually end up under the skin. He is on anti biotics for that though. The swellings can compromise internal organs and his breathing (we`re hoping this has now stabilized, and though he`s still a bit grunty, we`re hoping this won`t get worse). The hole/tear/rupture may get infected, may not heal, may keep allowing air through. I`ve been to see him this afty, and he`s just a stressy mess ... that is just killing me ... But i took his "toys" and did some clicker with him, and his little face lit up when he saw the toy tub. I spent about 15 mins doing that, then gave him a good scratch on the bits he wanted rubbing, he`s feeling very uncomfortable so isn`t keen on being touched, so i was just guided by what he wanted, and then i had to walk away with him calling after me ... god i just want him home where i can make him happy ... So, the vets want to keep him in for longer, at least til they see the swelling coming down, this is worrying me for 2 reasons. Firstly he`s very stressed, unhappy and cooped up in a tiny stable, that can`t be helping him breathing wise, and secondly he`s rubbing his throat/neck, on/over the stable door (with some force) as he wants out of the stable ... well surely that isn`t going to help it heal if he`s pushing the point where the tear is, on the edge of the door every 2 mins as he`s stressy. At home i have a small paddock, with leccy fencing, where he can walk round. I`m thinking that it would aid his recovery a lot better being back home, with his wee friend, and his normal routine. Surely walking round will help the blood circulation and in turn help bring some of the swelling down ? Whilst also letting him be more relaxed in himself, so in turn less stressy breathing ? .... It does seem to be the 'out' breath that is causing the trouble as he breathes, not the 'in' breath if that makes sense, and because he`s stressed he`s doing the **ppppppfffffff* thing a lot, which is a strong out breath. Between that and reaching his neck over the stable door and putting pressure on the exact part he`s hurt, it really can`t be good, can it ? Should i say something, or will they just think i`m being daft ? ........ Cookies and wine for anyone who`s still with me on my ramblings xxxx

Oh poor you and Coby. I hope the tear heals it's self without too many complications.
It would be worth discussing the possibility of bringing him home with the vet. When Billy hurt his back and had to stay on box rest, my vet did say that if he didnt cope, he could go out in a stable sized paddock because they didnt want him putting more stress on his injury.

I would discuss it and express your very valid concerns, but if they need him ready for vet' care at a moment's notice, he's better staying. I know it's hard.

i would discuss it with them - it different I know but I had a horse who nearly pulled his foot off on wire. He was operated on and in plaster and on box rest. I got him home where we had a small yard (small area in front of 3 stables) and he mooched around there which was far better for him. Vets were happy, horse recovered and went on for many many years. Good luck xxx

Talk to the vets Daisy - I'm sure they will value your input as much as you do theirs. After all you all have Cobys best interests at heart. Hope the tear can heal itself in double quick time, at least you know what you are dealing with now.

Glad things are moving on. Agree with the others about having a chat with the vet. Post when you have time as we are all rooting for you and Coby.
