So I stupidly thought I would drown my sorrows in the biggest bar of galaxy I have ever seen and whilst eating it and thinking about my first proper riding lesson for over 12 years which is happening on Friday, I could start to feel the butterflies and then it hit me why is there no proper calmer for horse riders? I no there is rescue remedy and I used to use that before exams but it never worked. There should be a confidence boost for horse riders and preferably in the form of chocolate :-) Now I'm completely against drug taking but from what I have heard about cannabis maybe there is another natural unflavoured plant out there that has the same relaxants that could just be added to chocolate? Insane idea I no but if some lucky person should ever invent it they would make a killing from me alone hehe

love the idea. I remember going with a friend to amsterdam and as we walked round all the shops selling 'herbal relaxants' (!) she said what she wanted at her age was something to get her going again!

The only really effective calmer I've found is a good dose of equine valium! That is, a geniune sane and sensible horse, who doesn't react to the rider's panics and tension, so that gradually you stop anticipating all the things that aren't going to happen and realise that you're enjoying yourself!
I'm truly blessed to have inadvertently bought such a priceless creature - but it still took me nearly two years to really enjoy riding her after I lost my confidence on a previous horse.

I will admit to having drunk beer before joint hacks (my dislike, especially one neighbour of mine... not her fault but mine)... and I don't drink! Took the edge off.

I started taking Kava kava taking my horse out as he was so spooky and we were so obviously feeding the spooks in both of us! It worked a treat, i remained calm (er) throughout his worries and became the eye of the storm which calmed him. I occasionally take it still if necessary but have found that over time his worrying became less worrying for me. I also do a lot of sighing and yawning around him, which makes him yawn too. Its non addictive and doesn't dull the mind. I buy it from here www.biovea.com/uk/product_detail.aspx?PID=20160&TI=GGLUK&C=N#.T-bXF5Fg91sI also find that any amount of coffee really does not help in cultivating a calm mind and body!
