I would really like to go and try Trec - did some Trec training a few years back and enjoyed it, but lack the confidence to get out there and do it. Maybe I need a mentor or something! I am a confident hacker/gate opener etc, but having no horse transport, I think its maybe the whole thing about going out and doing it on my own. Would be interested in any experiences/suggestions, or anyone who has done Trec. All replies gratefully received.

Is there a local trec group? Why not get in touch, tell them your interested and maybe volunteer as a foot slave at a comp first, that way you will learn lots by watching as well as meeting everyone etc. Usually here when we hold a comp we often get people coming alone and they can be paired with others coming alone! Even to compete as a single your not really alone, because you meet all the people at the check points, and grading the obstacles etc. First one I did on my then 4yo mare I wanted a quiet equine partner and got paired with a 12 year old girl on a riding school pony! It was perfect!!!! I gave her the responsibility of the map etc and we had a fab fun day. No pressure, she wanted to skip a few obsticles as did I and we still came 3rd!! I can't wait to get back to it soon!!

Thanks MVSponies - will try and get in contact with a local group as that sounds like a good idea as a starting point.

my friend and i did a pairs trec -- it was designed for beginners and was great fun -- when her horse had massive tantrums they even let us do our obstacle phase together to keep her horse calm about it -- veyr supportive!!!
