I have m.e and also have had two years aprox off regular riding. I think my fear is based to riding a cob mare last summer that was a rodeo ride I tried to ride her three times and managed to sit about 6 bucks each time before I had to let her get me off. I didnt have a horse to ride after this and didnt think it had overly affected me.
I brought Bramble back into light work in the winter and it took an awful lot to get me on her back, but once I got into it I felt ok. I have had her for years and completly trust her.
I then got to the point it was time to sit on my ex racer, that took an awful lot to get on her back and I was sooooo frightened I couldnt relax and because of it she walked backwards really fast, I took deep breath and then walked her around with no issue, I then got off and because of lack of energy and being scared I havent ridden her. I got a sharer for her who shared her until a month ago, she also had no issues with her.
Now I have got to the point I am seriously looking into a loan home for her as I love her to bits and dont want to sell but cant offer her the regular riding that she needs due to my condition.
I sat on her today and was so proud of myself as I am still so scared of her, I rode her around, she spooked slightly at a gate which was fine I sat it and gently kept my leg on though it shook me up I didnt give up, we carried on riding about just in walk around the menage and she was really good, although I think she can tell im so scared as she was tossing her head up and down which shes never done before with her sharer and also was napping to the gate.
I would like to ride her a bit and get her going a bit for people to try her and see her real potential as she is a lovely ride normally, but know my nerves let her down is there any way I can get myself over them enough to progress her, or would you let them try her without me riding? Also I do worry I wont find a loan home and will have to overcome my fear in her best interests so any suggestions would be brilliant
