So, I rode Jos today, for the first time this year and at our new yard Luckily, I have a fab, supportive YO, otherwise I'd have failed before tacking up. It is blowing a gale here! Anyway, got him tacked up with much chowing and running about and YO led him round to the school. He has never been to the school before, so was being a bit of a tool ;D After much spinning round and being a knob, I managed to fling myself on. He was a complete knobber horse, but we got some lovely moves - shoulder in, travers, a bit of half pass in trot . We also had a buck because I dared to tell him off but I stayed on, didn't even wibble. My new YO is a total star - she talked me through what to do to get him listening, and was so supportive. We stopped after about 10 minutes, as I was starting to get a little worried, but ended on a good note with a nice fairly calm walk. I wasn't actually scared, even though he was being a tool - I know he is normally great, and it was a new place and he couldn't see any other horses. Overall, very pleased, he wasn't that bad! A couple of years ago, that behaviour would have made me cry, but today I did OK. I have not had this sort of support available on hand before, and I have to say I love it! She said lots of nice things to me, gave me some tips, and didn't think I was an idiot - WIN!! ;D Oh, and I still love my knobber horse, no matter what he does! Hacking soon again I hope ;D

Yay that's so great! What a wonderful foundation to build on, and how lovely to have someone so supportive on the ground. It really does make a world of difference.

It's great that you have someone to help you out like this, someone non-judgmental who just wants you to enjoy Jos.
After a rather torrid time, I'm trying to rebuild my relationship with my Fjord mare, Dora. Reading your post about Jos being a knob makes me think it might not ALWAYS be my fault when Dora acts the fool - Fjords are like that!
