WOOHOoo rowanrachel, great progress for you both.
Our story is loooong. Seren is 7, I bought her as an unbacked 5 year old. Seren has been through alot in her short life, starved abused/beaten this all deduced by the way she behaves and reacts. We have seen 3 RA's and are working through loads of issues. She has definatly been ridden before but I never have. Spent alot of time getting her physically better and meantally too and hoping one day I can get on but who knows if not I have learnt alot and she is super special to me

Def similar in ways to honey, she's 7 too- don't quite know what's happened to her but she has been used for showing in the past and ridden but was kept drugged up to keep her calm and when her original breeders found her again in a dealers yard she was in a sorry state and had no trust in people. They bought her back and have since given her to me as I started working with her for them an they couldn't manage to keep her any more. I'm keen to do things from scratch again using natural techniques but she's very nervous and although she's great around the yard now- as soon as you go anywhere new, or there's a new noise, or new car about- she has a mini freak out! But we're getting there :-) keep us posted to your progress :-) x And photos please :-) Attachments:

So pleased to hear everyone is getting on so well! And what beautiful horses! Tomorrow I have a jumping lesson (can't wait!) Sat we are going for a hack with some friends and then Sunday we are hacking out just the two of us. We are going to do the same route as last time, and I am carrying perfect confidence everywhere with me at the moment! I have bought a little notebook and am going to make extracts from it so I have my own little personalised mini version!

Serenbean- luvly pic :-)
Helenc how was the jumping lesson?
Well I did it! Enthused by all the chat on the 'is there an elephant in the room' post- I hopped on Honey today and we went for our first ever Hack!! ( In a head-collar as still haven't found a bit she'll accept) We even squeezed in a little trot! She was pretty good on the way out striding out in front of her friend Fara (I kept pulling her back to beside her so she could be on the faraway side of the scary fire-breathing traffic) we went about 10mins up the road- stopped to look at the busy main road (but didn't cross) and then turned and came back- she napped the whole way home, zig zagged about the place and tried to eat the grass on several occasions,- but we did it! Goin to try a loop on Monday that doesn't involve turning to come home as she obviously thinks that is a complete waste of her precious time! - she even tried to trot past the road end to avoid turning into the yard and was so slow walking back up the drive I thought I was going to have to get of and lead her! - what does that tell you??? "adventure was over too quick mammy" :-)
I'm so chuffed as I think she really loves being out exploring and we just need to get to the stage where I can take her on some proper big hacks to get her properly stimulated and tired out for once. X

That's great rowanrachel, a big well done to you and the lovely Honey! Keep at it. What bits have you tried?
I have been encouraged by that thread too, we made around the small block twice yesterday again in hand. BUT I have had her saddle on again and she was a star. This morning standing on the wobbly mounting block I did some leaning over and put a little weight on and she stood like a rock. Really hope my appointment with the back man comes up soon as I don't want to try and get on until I know the can take it physicaly

Lol, I have a dodgy back just now too and was a bit of a trial today- but it actually felt looser after my ride amazingly.! Have to be super careful with them! The standing at the mounting block work makes such a difference doesn't it. I've done lots of just standing still there and giving her scratches and it's made such a difference as she'll stand better than half the more 'experienced' horses on the yard now. Her owners are determined I ride her in a happy mouth bit- but I'm completely unimpressed so far. We have a loose ring with roller in middle and her owners gave her to me with this saying it was perfect fit (but they'd never ridden her) When I put it on I felt it was too small and the loose rings were pinching she clearly was unhappy. so I got a bigger one with d rings but she hates it, head shakes dramatically the min it goes on- she hasn't really had a bit in for over a year and in her past has had some very severe unnecessary bits used so I'm kind of a chicken with trying them. I'm going to start trying others that I can borrow from friends but can't afford to buy any more just now. And to be honest it hasn't been my top priority at the mo. So i haven't really tried much. wasn't sure if I even really want to ride in a bit- I'm borrowing a bitless bridle off a friend next week to have a shot off and see how she goes with that too. Or was considering getting a dually.?

Ps hope your back gets better soon and well done with your progress. The whole debate on the other post does have alot of sense in it but I also know you have to do what feels right and not try and push on to the next stage before you feel ready- cos your horse will know if your not ready too :-)

Wow rowan and seren what brilliant stories of success! Proud of both of you and your neds Well the jumping lesson was awesome! So much fun! Then mick came out in bad hives on the Saturday. They didn't clear up so I got te vet out on tues who told me it had developed into cellulitis!!! He had steroid injections and steroid cream and has been on antibiotics. He's fine in himself, but cos of where they are I've not been able to put a saddle on. So you know what I did? I got on him and rode him up from te field bareback!!!! Can you believe it?! Then today I got on in the school and walked and trotted bareback! I'm so proud. He stood like a dream as I hauled myself on. My one in a million. Special.

Wowed that's super!!!! I was schooling honey on thurs and he was being such a lamb- following me at liberty If I'd have had a mounting block nearby I would have hopped on- I wanted to so much!! Well done you :-) that's just going to help your confidence so so much!! Your on a roll now ! Hope his hives clear ip soon that sounds nasty, what's caused it? I don't understand that celulitus thing - never heard of it?? X

Good for you rowanrachel, is your name Rowan or Rachel? as that would be easier to type. Must be such a good feeling being able to get on and have a little ride. Its not the be all and end all for me but would love to be able to get on my girlie one day
Awww poor Mick, but well done you, very exciting riding bare back!! Look forward to hearing more about it tomorrow.
I do have a slightly dodgey back myself but I am waiting for an appointment for Seren as have had conflicting professional opinions and am not sure which to go with. Am hoping Gavin will give me the all clear to get on
