I definitely agree with the zigzag method. I got a pony for my neice awhile ago. He was a 4yr old ex wild hill pony and I was told he was halter broken. He wasn't. If you asked him to come forward he reared. Asking him from a 45 degree angle was a completely different thing. To start with we zigzagged up the track a lot but after awhile as soon as I stepped sideways, he walked on straight away and not long after
Lady also planted occassionally when I first got her. I used this same method and she is fine now. She still plants if she is unsure of something but I just give her some time until she is ready to walk on.
