My friend has offered to take me to dressage next week but I'm not sure if my horse will fit in her trailer. She has a 13.2 pony, the horse im taking is 16.3 and the trailer fits 2x 16.2hh horses? I'm worried it will be too small but does it help if her horse is smaller than 16.2? or is that not relevant? the partitions are moveable. Thankyou x

It is the internal height that would concern me, along with the vehicle being used to tow. Is she used to towing with the extra weight in the trailer and is her vehicle capable of safely towing the extra weight?

I have an Ifor Williams 505 but my boys are 14.2, 14.3 and 11hh I wouldn't want anything as big as a 16.3 in it not because of the weight as I have a heavy cob and my 4x4 tows well but because of the height and width of the trailer. Hope that helps

Thanks I will just have to try him in it and see when I get a chance. Don't want to take a chance if it's not going to work!

if it's a new ifor williams then I believe the internal height is the same as the bigger trailer but the length and width is shorter so it depends if your horse is a long & wide 16,3hh or a short and fine 16.3
if it's an older model then no, I wouldn't travel a 16.3 in it as there isn't enough head room

Adequate internal height for your horse is one of the most important trailer specifications to be considered. Insufficient internal height, with your horse enclosed within......has the potential to injure your horse and also to put the animal off the idea of loading in a big way for a long time. So I suggest that the idea of try it and see is not a good one. Why not measure the height of your horse in an upright stance, from surface to tips of ears, then measure the internal height of trailer; compare these two measurements and then make a decision....?
