Hi guys, I'm a new member of IH and currently undergoing the worst time. I recently had a 'bit of a falling off' where I broke 4 ribs in 16 places and broke my nose too. The good news: my eyes don't water in the cold any more, think the broken nose might have cured that problem. My OH is adamant I will never ride again. I need to ride again, my ribs are almost at the stage where I could go for a hack. I do not have my own horse, next year was supposed to be THE year for buying. OH is not horsey, my life depends on horses. HELP!!!

Hello and welcome Lancashirelass, I'm sure you'll get loads of friendly support here, I know I have.
A bit! I'd hate to hear what a lot would be. Glad you are on the mend, I think it's going to take time and patience to explain how important it is to you. Was there anything particular about your fall, were you jumping? Maybe until he gets used to the idea you can avoid that particular horse. Is there anything he does which is risky? Maybe if you explained it in terms he would understand it might help. Btw you say your ribs are 'nearly' at the stage you could go for a hack, just be sure you are ok as if there was a problem your reactions may not be quite as quick as usual.

Glad to hear you are on the mend! IMO your OH should support you in whatever you want to do - does he have any hobbies or interests? Ask him how he would feel if he had to give them up? There is risk in everything we do, and if it is something you love just do it! My ex-OH made me choose between him and the horse - mmm guess what I chose?!

How about getting a good back protector when you get the all clear to ride? I find mine uncomfy- but I have had a few minor spills in it and it has done it's job well. I am sure some of the new designs are light and flexible too.
