Pyper has been riding for about 18months. She's had a few nasty falls and now she doesn't seem to be able to get her confidence back.
She started off sharing my less than easy mare, also called Piper.. learned to walk, trot, canter and started jumping on her, mostly on lead rein as the mare is very fizzy when she threw her.. out of blue spinning, bronco buck till the kid fell off (was off lead rein trotting behind the rest) she obviously got back on and was riding again on lead rein when the pony went lame. She went onto Minx, who had only really done lead rein but the pair gel'd quite well and they both began to do more (pony only rising 6) and she really taught Pyper to jump and to hack out off lead. She became quite head strong the faster paced they got so changed her bit to a wilkie which made all the difference and ment when needed she could stop her (instead of head to chest and just keep going)
A couple of months ago her first pony, Piper started to come right after loads of treatment.. Pyper's confidence had soured and she was riding my youngsters as well (mostly walk with bit of trot) and starting to do more off lead rein with minx. Piper, feeling better decided to fight with Pyper at the gate, turned and tried to bomb back into the field and when told no did the spinning, bronco buck to dump her! We got her back on etc and she did start to regain her confidence again on Minx and on Piper, we think it was a one off 'i'm feeling better' moment as she hasn't put a foot wrong, on lead or off with a walker.
About 6 weeks ago though Minx had her off... she'd been so sedate and quiet that we'd put her back onto the snaffle and taken away the wilkie.. she hadn't been ridden much, went out for a ride, she loves jumping so we let the pair pop a log, as Pyper went back round to do it again i just got a glimpse of a change of minx as the moment she asked her to turn and face the jump she was off in excitement and the pony aimed at a small gap between two tree's.. child got taken off on the tree's and understandable lost her nerve!
We got her back on and got her to jump again (on lead, then with a walker, then solo but with us stood by the offending tree!) but ever since then she hasn't been able to get her confidence back, out hacking or in the school. We've even tried her on our school master mini... helped a little but not really that much...
Any ideas
