I just wanted to post a little memorial to my beautiful big lad Yogi, he was my horse of a lifetime and even though I had him just four years, he has given me so many happy memories to treasure.
When I bought him, I knew he had mild DJD in both hocks, but even then just riding him was like floating on air, he had this wonderful big WB trot, it was going from a Mini to a Rolls Royce. Even when I'd had the crappest days at work or at home, I'd get up on him (he was 16.3h it was a long way up) and go for a ride, and I'd forget about everything crap and just enjoy the feel he gave me.
He was a truly lovely 'person' too, he never bit me or kicked me, he always came when I called and he used to put his head over my shoulder and push my bum with his chin, so he'd snuggle me under his neck, so I could reach up and give him neck a good scratch. He also used to rest his big head on my shoulder and go to sleep, many a time I stood there in the field with one shoulder feeling like it was going to break because his head was so heavy, but I didn't want to move and wake him.
We also used to have a wonderful time playing chase me games in the field, I used to run off and he would canter after me, I'd change directions and he'd change with me. It truly felt like I had a bond with him, and I swear I could almost see him laughing.
So tragically he was diagnosed with arthritis 5 weeks ago, there was a large calcification on his C6 vertabrae and impingement on his spinal cord, consequently he did not have full control of his back end and in the past few days it got worse. It was so hard to make the decision, especially as he was only 10 but it was the kindest thing to say goodbye and let him be at peace.
Here are a few photos to remember the happy times and how beautiful he was. I miss him so very much, he was a horse in a million.
Riding by the beach in North Devon, he was feeling quite full of it that day and tried to buck me off beside the golf course, I just laughed because he was feeling full of himself.
Such a handsome boy
The professional photo shoot my OH bought me for a Christmas present, I love this photo of him.
He was so good that my OH who hadn't ridden in a long time, was able to have lessons on him.
Our first dressage comp together, complete with my crap plaiting, there is alot of hair gel on that mane!
I loved him so much
