Hi,
I am a very IH-minded groom/rider looking for work in the Glasgow/Stirling/surrounding areas.
Since moving to Glasgow a couple of years ago to study, I have had to give up my own horse, riding jobs/opportunities that I had in my hometown. I have since worked in a big riding school in Glasgow, but I am looking for something more challenging. I have a full UK Driving License and own transport. I am looking for either part time work, as I will be back at uni come September, although as a third year student I don't expect my class hours to interfere too much ! Alternatively I'd be interested in helping out if you had a young, inexperienced or tricky pony/horse for schooling/bringing on - I have backed, started and brought on several ponies for myself, employers and friends.
If you think you may have something suitable, I have tried to briefly outline my past experience and skills.
Work: I have worked in livery/dealing yards and riding schools, as well as doing some BE Event grooming for a few seasons. Have some teaching experience, also with children and adults with physical and learning difficulties. I am used to the sometimes hectiv environment of a busy yard, I like to think I have become very good at juggling yard chores, ponies and children! I am good with kids, enjoy teaching and have done alot of own a pony days (from little ones to teenagers), teaching stable management and so on. I love working with kids, unlike alot of people I seem to have encountered in riding schools! I am a hard grafter, I thrive under pressure and enjoy the responsibility of running a yard and have experience heading a team, including volunteers ect.
Riding/Groundwork: I have had the opportunity to work with a variety of horses over the years, being involved in the buying/bringing on/selling on process in previous employment. (I'm small so have had alot of fun with the smaller horses/lively little ponies!) I have experience dealing with youngsters from the first stages of handling, I can effectively lunge (2 reins) and long rein, ride and lead and other groundwork.
I was given my last pony as it was very nappy and learned to rear, to the point that it wouldn't even go forward in the school or leave the yard. I worked alot with him long reining, leading and getting him interested again by taking him anywhere and everywhere. This was a massive learning curve and was when I really got into IH (have been to Monty Demo's past several years) and he was violently averse to any sort of force, even me carrying a whip took a long time for him to accept. Sadly I had to give him up when I started Uni.
I have alot of time, patience and determination to give and am becoming very restless without a project to get my teeth into!
If anyone thinks they might have something suitable for me, please do get in touch. I have tried (!) to be brief, so even if you would like more info on my past experience let me know.
Many thanks,
Suzanne
