Last night I went to look at some horses and just came away grinning. I tried 2 - the first one she said was really safe but didn't feel it and she warned that the second was a bit more forward going.
Well in the school he only rushed a bit if you got behind the movement - if you rode with it he kept almost stopping lol and I got him going round long and low and coming back underneath me. But the main thing was that I walked him on my own down a main road in rush hour! I huge juggernaut went past as did 3 motor bikes and a rattly pick up truck and none of them slowed down! This was me that had to go out on the lead rein before christmas (mind you I turned the other one round straightaway so its not on all gee gees)
I'm going back to look at him again, hopefully though it will be wet and windy and not hot and still as it was last night but I came home in shock ;D

No going to see him again tomorrow - feel quite nervous now incase it goes wrong - think postive thoughts, think positive thoughts...... read Perfect Confidence tonight and go for it If it goes well I'll show you him as he actually with a dealer but one who is recommended by several people I know. I've seen a few private horses and although people are basically honest, what they think is safe, differs from what I consider safe. Also I saw one who I was told was brilliant in traffic etc and when I got there they lived in a quiet residential area - very different from fast main rural roads where nothing ever stops! I am going to see another private sale that sounds good but the owner has had her from 6 months old and somthing niggles inside me as the mare could be a certain candidate for separation anxiety.

Oh don't know!!!! I was really really nervous - I don't know why but I was and it was pouring with rain and howling gale. Anyway he was very wary and so I walked him out on my own in hand and we went to look at things. He did back up away from a cone but I stood and waited and he went to it. By that time the rain had eased off so I decided to get on him (wasn't ridden first) and he was okay in walk but started rushing in trot. This didn't wory me and I worked him until he settled down - he is very green in the school. So then I decided to go out! He did look at things more (last time it was very hot) and didn't jump but gave things like the wheelie bin a very large margin. I walked him down the road and he was very wary of things and at one point tried to rush a little so I just said 'no' and he was ok. I turned for home and we were a bit all over the place as he had eyes a bit on stalks but nothing happened.
At first I was really disappointed but later realised that I had actually got on something, walked down a busy road whilst feeling very anxious and it was blowing a hoolie! ^ months ago I either would have had to be lead or probably not got on at all!
My friend came with me - she felt he was a bit of a worrier but wasn't going anywhere. He is wary of people but the girl was honest and said that when they come over from Ireland a lot are like that as they have been made to go forward and had very little affection. Part of me feels that with time he could be fab - my friend thinks that too as she says he is very polite and honest. She thinks I could do it as I have the skills but its whether he would then scare me and we went backward (although now I do have help).
Against - his age and so green. I wish he was about 1 year on. Also would he change once he stopped doing what he thinks he ought to be doing because he has been 'oppressed' in the past (you know what I mean)
For - not ruined. Polite, gentle boy. Doesn't spook, buck etc and when told not to do something immediately stops. Light in the mouth just seems to worry when he is not getting it right. Tries to please.
Oh help!!!! This is awful as OH is away and I can only discuss it with the dog! Going to see another tomorrow that sounds fab but as I said owner has had her from 6 months so could cause problems and she is more expensive and don't really want to stretch that far. Other than that everything for sale is either 14hh or over 16hh and if smaller is young or very hairy. Doh!!
