It's been a momentus week for me and Zack. ;D
On tuesday I had a lesson booked but nearly cancelled due to the weather.
Storms had been forecast but apart from a few rumbles of thunder in the distance I thought it would be ok.
er - wrong! I've been riding him up to the school lately and he's getting quite good at it but he was quite distracted while I was tacking up and I considered asking someone to walk with us on this occasion - 'just in case'. Luckily my instructor apeared on the yard at just the right moment so she walked with us.
He was not a happy bunny and was a bit stressy and really didnt want to leave the yard and she had to hold his bridle a fair bit of the way but we got there.
Just as we got in the school it started to rain!!
He was still distracted and was a bit of a giraffe but no sillyness - in fact he was as good as gold, he did everything asked of him and we even had a little canter!! (my first since we did it up the village high street out of control last october) and guess what? I ENJOYED IT ;D
We called it a day after about 15 minutes because the rain was now getting torrential and set off back down to the yard.
Half way there, there was the loudest clap of thunder and a bolt of lightening that seemed to go to ground just the far side of the fields on our right!!
Zack shot forward a few paces and did sort of a half spin and then stood there shaking. We managed to persuade him to go foward again and he had only managed a couple of steps and it happened again. That time I got off, put the reins over his head and my instructor and I took a side each and walked him back to the yard.
I was VERY proud of how good he was in such awful conditions. I wouldn't normally dream of riding him even in the rain never mind a thunder storm but I think it gave my confidence a massive boost.
Then today - drum roll please...
I RODE HIM OFF THE ROAD!! I think it is probably a good 18 months since I've ridden him anywhere other than the roads because he has been known to get a tad silly when there is grass under his feet
And he was a total star ;D apart from a good nosey around because it was new, he walked just as calmly as if he was on the road! I couldn't believe it - I've been worrying about it, putting it off and feeling ill at the thought of doing it - and nothing to report apart from angelic behaviour.
I LOVE MY HORSE!! ;D ;D ;D
All in all a fabby week.
